Supporting the forum hosting through Amazon (split from Re: Garmin to buy DeLorme?)
...purchases through these links go directly to supporting LDO forum hosting costs.
Is there an affiliate link for LDO that I can bookmark as my Amazon homepage? I'm not interested in buying these maps, but I do use Amazon frequently.

I'm reminded Steve about this (several have asked - thank you!)

In the short term, this link should work Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, Books, DVDs...

Thanks, Michelle.
Any of you who orders through Amazon and wants to help offset Steve and Michelle's administration costs for operating our Lazy Daze forum can do so by using the posted link to Amazon when ordering. Doing so, of course, is voluntary.

I don't think Steve/Michelle/Chris should bear ANY of the costs for this valued forum. Any way we can make a direct contribution?  -- Jon & Loni

Thanks for your kind offer, Jon & Loni. According to Michelle, operating/administration costs are being covered so far this year by Amazon revenue. As I mentioned in the earlier post, using the Amazon affiliate link helps. Certainly if there appears to be a shortfall, we moderators will present the issue to all of our members. We REALLY appreciate all Steve and Michelle have done for us.

Continuing on this off topic subject, I bookmaker that link to my iPhone/ iPad desktop, and it logs me into my account automatically. As easy to use as the Amazon app. It is great supporting this forum!

We've have wanted to become a LDO Supporter too.   And so if the Administration could keep this type of suggestion in mind, we'd be appreciative.

On a photography site I frequent, ByThom.com, the site's author and administrator, Thom Hogan,  allows one advertisement. That is for a well regarded photo store, B and H Photo in NY,NY.  If I click the advertisement it takes me to B and H Photo.  This works so that if I buy something Mr. Hogan's website receives a tip, for the lack of a better word,  for sending a customer.  This helps to fund a site that does camera reviews and stuff.

It seems we could do something similar, maybe not an advertisement, but a link at the bottom of the page, or a button at the top of the page next to the "Media".  We could call the button something like "fund this site".  A person clicks on it and it explains how the link works and provides a link.  Easy to find and always there.

I have never used Amazon for online purchases. However, I am happy to do what I can for the fine folks at LDO.

If I understand this correctly, the "link" provided will allow a portion of my Amazon purchases to go directly to LDO to support the forum. No need to "click" anything during "checkout"? That's easy enough.

I am in no way a shopaholic but there's plenty I am interested in. I'll do my best to get my DW to use the link as well. LDO will be self-sufficient in no time if I can get her on board.

Now what was I looking for? Oh yeah.

Yes, Kent, I believe that's what happens. You have to set up the on line Amazon account with password, credit card #, etc., and using the link to Amz provided by Michelle, simply sign in and make whatever purchase you wish. This method is the best way we can help support Steve and Michelle for hosting our forum.

At one point, I knew this information but over the months had forgotten it.  So I might suggest that this somewhat important information be pinned or otherwise displayed for new members to consider.  I've bookmarked the link and will use it as we make our Amazon purchases.  And thank you for helping me to remember.

Please, everyone, bookmark the Amazon link so we can adequately fund the Forum.
Steve and Michelle have generously given their time to help setup and operate the forum, the least we can do is to make sure there is adequate funds to pay the hosting  and server fees.
While this is a free-memebership forum, none of operational cost are free. We do not have advertisements, as the Yahoo forums do.

I make a point of using Amazon links for any items I post, even if other vendors are available.
Please do the same.
Thanks

We've just ordered some stuff from Amazon using the link on the front page, which was our first time since the Moderators educated us about it's importance.  We sure hope this purchase worked for LOD?  Does anyone have a way to check this for us as we intend to use as often as we can?  So thanks again for all that LDO Forum does for us.

I own a kindle e-reader. I'm following a mystery searies so now ordering my books through the link.  Also some other stuff but each purchase was small so I doubt someone could track the amounts.  I trust the process because it allows the marketing folks to track us and how we live.  They were already doing this if you order from the web by the way. It is just another way to better sort the sales.

I can't see actual purchase details in the account, but I can tell you that the Amazon affiliate link use generated about $10 towards the forum in the past week.

We're willing to help offset these costs...question....after using the link Michelle provided, a pop up notified us of the Amazon app....if we use that app on our iPad, will the result be the same i.e...a portion donated to this site?

I'm not familiar with the Amazon app, but you need to have the affiliate info in the link you complete the purchase through in order for the forum to get credit.

In recent months, the LDO Forum has seen a good many people join our neighborhood which is exciting news.  Some of these newer neighbors may not know that the cost of maintaining this neighborhood is partially off-set when we order goods and supplies through the Amazon Link on the LDO home page.  I thought I'd take a minute  to mention it since this is an important way to contribute to the LDO Forum.

Hi Ed and Margee;  The link I use is the very last line at the bottom of the 'Banner' page (and other pages). Labeled 'Affiliate Notice' and a green hyperlink "affiliate commission at no cost to you" connects also to Amazon.  I have no idea how successful this fund raiser is, or how our computer time 'fund' is doing.    RonB
