Verizon Jetpack (MiFi) randomly disconnects
Yahoo Message Number: 156979
My Verizon 4015 Jetpack randomly disconnects from the internet several times a day. It's been doing this for two months, regardless of our location (WA to CA to TN), or whether it's plugged into it's AC adapter or running on it's internal battery. It is using an external antenna on the top of the motorhome (an SOB). I've owned it for about 3 years, during which it worked properly, never disconnecting.

I've followed the troubleshooting guides to reboot/reset, and remove/reinsert the SIM, and talked to Verizon support ("no system problems or reports of other people having problems -try rebooting/resetting"). Support suggested taking it to a Verizon store to be checked, but the store I chose said they only do phones, not hot spots.
Is anyone else having this problem? Any suggestions for correcting it?

Eric, you may do better finding answers to that question in a Yahoo group such as internetbycellphone, but I think if it were me, I'd just replace the old 4015 hotspot. Performance and features have improved quite a bit in the past three years, and a newer model would probably serve you better. Just my two cents' worth. :-)

Andy is exactly right about the newer Jetpacks. My old Jetpack had the same symptoms before a power spike during a lightning storm ended it's misery. The new Jetpack I got from Verizon works much better and the battery life is at least twice as long. Now I'm kind of glad the old one got fried.

For what it's worth, the two Verizon hotspot models recommended by the Technomads are the Novatel MiFi 6220L and the just-introduced Netgear Jetpack AC791L.
