Switching to LED interior lights - a start

I switched some of our incandescent to LED light bulbs this month.   The exterior light went out and as I was going to order one I thought I would start the process of switching over.  I kept reading about how much less energy the LEDs used.  Mentally I understood that.  But the reality was very different.  On a recent camping trip to Big Meadows in VA, I had lights on all the time.  I was under a bunch of trees so the interior was dark even in mid day.  It seemed that I had lights on all the time.  I kept worrying about the batteries so I was checking them a lot.  They, the batteries, never seemed to go down - well not like before.  Just reading about the energy savings on this site did not really prepare me for the reality.
I went to M4 Products for the bulbs.  Originally I was looking to buy off Amazon but digging through reviews I found some people had issues construction of some lights, others had issues with color and so on.  I prefer dealing with a sales person and comfort that if I have an issue with the product I can send that product back.  I understand that those things will cost me a bit of money.  I am ok with that and will be going back to M4.  This purchase was just a few lights (6).  I got bright LED for the galley and bathroom, less bright for the hall and over the shower; all four the same color temperature as the incandescent bulbs.  Then bright white for the outside light (it has an orange cover) and bright white for over the stove.

Those of you that have not made the switch if you do enough research much better deals are out there but I might not have made the choices I made had I not been talking to the M4 rep.  He was not trying to "sell me" on a product but rather wanted to meed my needs.

I am very happy with the help I received from M4 and even happier that the folks here convinced me to make the switch.

I dealt with M4, and agree with your take. Other vendors may be cheaper, but I thought that the product selection and quality and overall customer service, including very fast shipping, was well worth any uptick in pricing.

As ever, YMMV.

New tires . . . . . .check

New battery . . . check

ABS light is staying on - ARGH!

I've searched through the archives at the site, but after about a dozen possible posts are shown, there is an error code, and further attempts are laughed at by Yahoo!.

We are supposed to leave on Monday to go to the Mayo Clinic in Phoenix 200 miles away, but don't want to drive the coach with the ABS light on.

We can take it to a repair place on Monday, but that is not going to be soon enough, I'm afraid.

Anyone have any advice on things to try to see if this is a legitimate code, or something that happened when they put on the new tires maybe?

Judie,

I had the ABS light on our '05 Mid Bath on the way home from picking it up new at the factory, It was intermittent on at first, then pretty much stayed on. Braking seemed normal.

After several trips to the shop and failed attempts to fix it by swapping parts, they found a pinched wire "at the frame" in a wiring harness. Sorry they weren't more specific than that.

I recently replaced a fluorescent fixture in a closet in our home with a tube style LED. It's quite bright, probably too much output as a replacement for the fluorescent's in the "older" LD's. I mention this because just last year LED replacement bulbs for fluorescent's were selling for more than this fixture and light cost - $20. If you are thinking of switching forget about the solutions that have been mentioned here in recent years and those on the Companion. The times are changing. The price of LED's are sinking and the choices are expanding. BOLO.

So far, no good.  We haven't had it out on the road yet to see if the light goes off, but may try that tomorrow.  Even if it does, not sure we would feel comfortable driving in Phoenix traffic with a potential brake problem.  Will likely leave the rig at the mechanic and take alternate transportation and utilize alternate accommodations (UGH!) while up there.  I've found an AirBnB that is ten minutes away, and whose owner works at Mayo.  Not our first choice . . .

Judie,

The ABS light is amber and a *warning*, not a red light which would indicate potential danger or serious flaw.  The breaks *should* work fine.  ABS does nothing for you unless you're in a panic stop situation, wheels slipping, etc.  In NC you would pass state vehicle inspection with an ABS light on.  So, don't psych yourself out.

Do get it fixed, of course, but it's not an emergency.

Update:  We took Dorrie Anne in to see the mechanic for a check up.  Of course two blocks from the house, the light went out as someone had predicted.  It did not come back on during the approximately six-mile ride to the shop.  Since we had already made alternate transportation and accommodation arrangement for the upcoming trip, we just left her there to be tended to.  The rep said that they could look at the history on the computer.  I have no clue what that means, but I know we will feel better about taking her on a photographic trip later on in November if someone has put a "stethoscope" onto her chest and listened to her heartbeat.

I probably should have waited to report this once I got more information, but Old Timer's Disease sometime precludes remembering to do these things, so must strike while the iron is hot.
