Most desireable LD for resale?
Yahoo Message Number: 152351
Hi Everyone-

What is the most desirable or popular LD that people are looking for used?

Im thinking it would be the 27' mid bath ?  In resale red of course...

The 27' Mid Bath was my first choice before I went to Lazy Daze to see one up close (we are getting ours new in September). I liked the idea of the rear lounge, however when we stepped inside one it felt a bit closed off for us due to the bath being in the middle dividing the coach in half (coupled with the cherry cabinets) for us it felt like two small rooms with a bottleneck in between.
We then entered the 27' Rear Bath. It felt completely different. Open and spacious (Maple cabinets too). Lots of seating with the two couches and dinette in the front. The rear bath was very large compared with the mid bath which had its toilet mounted on the wheel well (too tight a fit for me). No bottle neck in the RB. Wide open and tons of light due to the extra window over the dinette.
Todd mentioned that the RB was the most popular. So that's what we are getting.

When looking for my LD I noticed there are a LOT of MB and after talking to other LD's owners Most who buy a 27 foot or for that matter the 24 foot they say they Love the MB. That is not my choice or what I'm looking for but the best answer to your question would be what ever you feel most comfortable with should be the rig you choose not what the resale would be as there will always be a buyer for your LD as everyone has different desires.. To each their own, right..

Did I write this?  No?  Well, yup!  Exactly how I feel about the two floorplans.  The MB seemed perfect - on paper.  We have the RB, which is perfect for us.  If two separate areas are vital, the RB will not do, but our comfort level in the MB was not tolerable for the same reasons that Kent states.  Despite the fact that there is less window space at the rear of the coach, it seems to me to be as bright inside as any MB that I have been in.  Perhaps there is more actual glass at the front of the rig in an RB to even things out.

As everyone states - it is an extremely personal thing that shouldn't be decided on paper.  A personal visit to the chosen floorplan is mandatory.  Of course - YMMV!!!  ;->

Another vote for the MidBath being the most popular.  That is what we wanted after attending a GTG and taking a close look at how we would be using it with our two dogs. We camp often with our daughter (grown and in grad school) or I go camping with my brother and his son.  So for us the MB configuration works great as it gives us privacy at night.
It it were just my wife and I, or just me, I would strongly consider a rear bath because of the large open area.  At one of the North East meetings I had the chance to visit at length with friends in theirs and really liked the openness.

"...the RB was the most popular. So that's what we are getting." ---

I hope you're getting an RB because you feel that its floor plan/configuration will work best for your personal situation and travel style and not because it's the "most popular". ;-)

Floor plan/model choice is highly subjective; what fits one is unworkable, inconvenient, or awkward for another. Good thing LD offers a few choices of layout!

A question which might bring some interesting answers is whether owners who are buying their second (or third) new Lazy Daze *choose the same floor plan* for their later purchases as they did initially, and, if there's a change, why? Some buyers, often those new to RVing, may look hard at the floor plan, but may not consider weight issues, length of the rear overhang, exterior compartment numbers and configurations, and placement of holding tanks when making a choice of models.

A comment on the 2015 TK; this model now has a single termination valve for the grey and black tanks. The drain pipes from each tank angle down slightly and the valve is set low; the result of this design is limited road clearance - maybe someone with a 2015 TK can measure the distance? Even though the valve is "amidships", the configuration looks very vulnerable to damage. My first thought when I saw this was that a skid plate would be a real good idea! Candidly, if I were buying a new LD to replace my 12-year-old TK (which I am very attached to!), the placement of this single termination dump valve would very likely steer me to a different model.

Each person sees and evaluates "features" differently; a deal breaker for one is a non-issue for another. As ever, YMMV.

How Opinions can Differ,
When we ordered our 2001 Mid-Bath in 2000 we went to the factory with the intend to select the Rear-Bath.
However, when we viewed the various floor models we both fell in love with the Mid-Bath. We told Ed that we would make a decision the next day. Well, before we arrived at our hotel we already had decided. The next day we put our signature down for the Mid-Bath.
A few years later we bought a a 1999 Rear-Bath for our daughter and her family. For a young family with youngsters it was the correct choice. In the meantime we have had ample time to compare these models and never regretted our change of mind.
Everybody looks at life in a different way. Let's be happy that Lazy Daze has an excellent product for different types of people.

Joan,
We chose the RB because it is what suits us best. Personally, I've never been too good at following trends.
I prefer to make my own choices. Todd's comment only came after the fact out of my own curiosity.  While I am not a big "open concept" fan in "sticks and bricks", for our LD it works perfectly.
Resale? Never even gave it a thought. Not a real concern to us as my daughter will, most likely, be getting our LD when we're gone. Hope she likes it.

"What is the most desirable or popular LD that people are looking for used?"

All the floor plans are popular and the resale of clean units is not difficult, there is a constant supply of used buyers. We see them here on the forum every few days.

Personally, I think our 23.5' Front Lounge is perfect. My wife thinks the RB is the best model.
If one model was better, there would be no other models. The perfect model is the that suits you best, everyone has different needs and desires.
Pick the model that is right for you and don't worry about resale value.

FYI, after many years of attending Caravan Club and other LD GTGs, my impression is the MB is the most popular model, for the past twenty years. The blue paint scheme is by far the most popular(and durable) color.

Thanks to everyone for your replies.  I would not have thought Blue to be the most popular paint scheme or most durable.

We are leaning toward a 31 Island.  I am hoping I can remove the mattress and have enough room for the kennels.  We will sleep on the sofa..  The pet children always get first dibs and the better accommodations...

Is the towing capacity the same on all 3 models? (ie. towing a toad)

Thanks,

Mike and Keri

We have a 2014 24' TK.  Almost our only design complaint is about how low the gray/black drain is.  It can be a bit of a problem to completely empty the tanks if the site sewer outlet is raised at all.
We hadn't noticed this when we went to the Mothership to check out the models.  But even if we had, it would not have changed our decision on which model to get.

When considering a 31 for your application be careful of the CCC.  You have not said how much the dogs weigh.  In another thread you said you have four.  Four wire crates capable of keeping the dogs can add weight quickly.  Consider our two dogs, Link a tall standard poodle at 70# and Zelda our 20 lb poodle mix.  Four small crates and dogs for a Zelda size dogs wouldn't add up to much, times Link pluse their crates could combine for a fair size sum.
That has an effect on the way can will camp.  For example, the big poodle is a rescue and we been invited along with other rescue owners to a PCA event on the east coast (in MD).  Camping at the PCA dog shows is dry camping in a parking lot at local fairground.  While it is in a parking lot it was not like camping at Walmart.  It's fun, but still in a parking lot and there are no hook ups.  We needed to bring a full load of water for us and the kids.  In your case if your four are as large as Link (our big guy) the combined load the dogs and crates may not leave much room for food, wine, and clothing in the 31' OCC equation. You can not lighten the load because you have to bring the weekend's water with you.
If your not going to be doing dry camping the weight issue may be more manageable.  The details are much in how you intend to enjoy the RV with the ALL the family.
We got DaV so we could be with our four legged kids on trips and understand that frame of mind.

Thanks John.  I have thought about the CCC quite a bit and done some preliminary weight calculations.  I think we may be left with only about 1000 lbs after 800 lbs of kennels and pets and people..  A 27' with the twin sofas in the rear may also work if I can remove one of them.. which I think is possible.  I think a 27' would leave us with about 2000lbs to work with which seems more realistic.

We do not plan on much dry camping but I also do not want to rule that out.  Plans may change!

One more small detail .... Distribution.  The max weight I.e. CCC assumes even distribution of items so all wheels, springs, and axel are carrying the even amount of weight.

It is possible as I explored this option in the past. From what I know some of the framing for the sofa gets destroyed in the removal process. Andy would know more, he installed a custom made desk in place of one sofa. There is an article on his Eureka page I believe.

"We are leaning toward a 31 Island [Bed]. I am hoping I can remove the mattress and have enough room for the kennels."

You can remove the mattress from a 31' IB model, but the bed itself will remain--the freshwater tank occupies most of the space beneath it.

"A 27' with the twin sofas in the rear may also work if I can remove one of them... which I think is possible."

Several of us have removed the driver's-side sofa (which is the shorter of the two). For example, I replaced mine with a desk; a friend replaced his with a recliner.

"We will sleep on the sofa."

If you're looking at a 27-foot midbath (which has about a thousand pounds more cargo capacity than a 31-footer), then you may want to try sleeping in the "upstairs bedroom" over the cab. It's a comfortable queen-sized bed, and it's always made up--no need for day/night conversion.

It's not for everyone, and in particular if both members of a couple need to make trips to the bathroom at night, it can be awkward climbing over each other. But you should at least consider it.

Those pictures are great.  I also like that oven upgrade!

I forgot about the upstairs bedroom.  That would actually be fine for us..

Are there any RV remodelers that anyone could recommend that would be able to do all the carpentry work for us?  I would love to place my order for an LD and drive it somewhere on the way home for the minor mods to be completed.

M,

From what I have read from Andy's modification is It is not a "minor mod" Andy has wrote in detail all he went through with the millions of staples LD's put's into their rigs which also tells me they are built to last. Not like some of the other mass produced slapped together rigs on the road. Just say'n..

Another option is that the pets & kennels travel in the overhead bed area.  I know of someone who does this with 3 Goldens in a class C.  The dogs access the overhead area & their crates by using a folding ramp which is stored next to their crates.  The mattress may need to removed to get the height needed for taller crates.

Thanks Laurie.  Todd from LD "mother ship" told me the height of the overhead bed area was only 23"..  Our kennels are 4x3 and 5 feet tall....

---- The kennels are the wire cage type that can fold flat, then be set up in place, right? Otherwise, getting something of that size through a 22" entry door could be a problem. ;-)

We chose the 31 IB for getting out either side.  The 4 legged kids are small enough that all 4 of us fit. They have a ramp on my side.  Towing is limited to 4000 by the hitch.  The 31 has limited carrying capacity due to the base rig weight.

We owned a 2004 26 MB and just bought a pristine 2011 31 Twin Bed with only 17,300 miles. We think there is simply no comparison between the 26 MB and the 31TB.  We find the 31 far more comfortable. It provides a much greater sense of "personal space", has the comfy two front lounge chairs and the brilliantly designed dining/work table and overall we find it a much better house to live in.  The 31's permanent bedroom with two 6+ foot long, spacious twin beds and ample wardrobe space is absolutely wonderful compared to the small, multi-purpose combination sitting room-bedroom in the 26s.  We tow a 2500 pound Honda Fit and carry up to 450 pounds of "stuff" in its cavernous back half, solving any possible payload problem with the 31.  Towing, turning and maneuvering feels pretty much the same for both the 26 and 31.  Also, the post 2009 Ford E450 chassis rides and tracks far, far better than the pre-2009 chassis.

Of course, in the end, it's all personal choice, so please take this as FYI, FWIW, YMMV.

Thanks Gator Bob-

We seem to be leaning toward a 31' to obtain more personal space and the fact that you can load up the dinghy is a great option as well.

Thanks for your input.  It's great to hear from others that have upgraded to different models for various reasons..

I went through 3 boats before we find "the right one" and Im trying to not do that with an RV....
