1992 MP 22' Onan Generator Installation
Yahoo Message Number: 149560
Hello All,

I've recently purchased a 1992 MP 22' and am sorting out a few issues...I'm concerned with the Onan Genset installation not being level.  It looks as if the left end has dropped down a few inches.   However, everything seems to work properly with the exception of the interior control and the hour meter...If this is, "normal" that would be nice to know.  I'll try to post a pic of the issue in case that's easier to understand my concern.

Thanks,
John

If your generator has an oil pump and not a splash oil system like a lawnmower engine I wouldn't be too concerned.

In extremely hot climates like traveling thru AZ. in summer I run my Onan Emerald generator while driving to keep the coach air conditioning going. Many times it is not level and has caused no problem. I do this so I won't put more load and heat on the V10 by running cab a/c. Uses a little more fuel but no biggie.

I thought the same when I got my 1991 but that's the way they are designed.

I remembered that these Onans motors were originally designed to power 3-wheeled Westcoaster postal delivery cars back in the 1960's.  The motor sits at an angle to align the transmission tail shaft to the rear axle.  Amusingly they used a Ford Falcon transmission.

My brother boight one of those 3-wheelers at auction for $50 and we had that thing apart and back together several times. That's why I  laughed so hard to see the exact same motor powering our genset..

Thanks Bob,I've tried to attach a pic of what I'm concerned with.  It doesn't look proper, but at the same time there doesn't appear to be any room for corrections either.  Good idea on the using the generator for A/C.  I live in the Inland Empire Area of California and I know I'd be turning off everything I could to ease the burden on the coach motor - especially on the hill climbs.      From: " [lifewithalazydazerv]" lifewithalazydazerv@yahoogroups.com> To: lifewithalazydazerv@yahoogroups.com

That's the way Emeralds look, the oil sump slopes toward the pickup up for the oil pump.

It's a good generator when maintained.
