Can still sit on both benches with room for feet. More handy than in the shower, but not ideal. Interested in seeing what others are doing. s/Terry Apple
Re: Trash storage in 26 foot LD Reply #2 – September 08, 2014, 09:56:12 pm Yahoo Message Number: 148542In our 26-foot RB, we put a regulation-sized wastebasket in front of the commode between the two chairs, and use that for all dry throwaways. For wet things, I keep a container on the counter in back of the sink that is lined with two plastic bags. Two? In case of leakage. The container I am using is a Rubbermaid canister that is meant for five pounds of flour, and the plastic produce bags from the grocery store fit it perfectly. I keep a folded paper towel in the bottom of the container in case there is a leak through both bags. (Belt and suspenders-like.) I don't like to clean up icky messes. For our next trip, I have acquired a plastic container that is supposed to be for keeping cereal fresh. It is a slimmer model, and has a smaller, but I feel adequate, opening into which to shove wet kitchen debris without needing to remove the whole cover.Mind you, I cook from scratch, so few cans/boxes, and we don't drink sodas, beer or wine which produce a fair amount of throw aways as well. So this small volume of available space may not be sufficient for the average RV'er. But it works marvelously well for me, and I am quite happy with the containment of messes and smells in a confined container that has a secure closure. Here is an assortment of possibilities:http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_0_27?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=rubbermaid+cereal+container&sprefix=rubbermaid+cereal+container%2Caps%2C220>You may find a more suitably-sized container for your needs at the Rubbermaid site.Virtual hugs,Judie http://dorrieanne.wordpress.com As an Amazon Associate Lazy Daze Owners' Group earns from qualifying purchases.
Re: Trash storage in 26 foot LD Reply #3 – September 08, 2014, 11:27:39 pm Yahoo Message Number: 148543Good method, Judie. I use a standard plastic water bucket which a small size kitchen garbage bag fits nicely or a couple of plastic grocery bags. The standard size water bucket also comes in handy sometime just as a bucket especially those times adding fresh water to the tank without breaking out the hose. At the end of the day I twist-tie the bag and toss it in the back of the toad till I come across a proper receptacle. After a few days I may put the bags in a larger plastic garden bag toss them up on the MH roof and stick them in the storage pod which also stores the Satellite TV dome and all its associated cables and gear...Al On 9/8/2014 6:56 PM, Judie Ashford [lifewithalazydazerv] wrote:Quote Quote In our 26-foot RB, we put a regulation-sized wastebasket in front of the commode between the two chairs, and use that for all dry throwaways. Love the idea about the container behind the sink, though. Not much room there, but I am going to find room for that. Just happen to have some of those containers in the house. Thanks.Al: Also like your dual-duty solution for a bucket. s/Terry

Works well for us, and we have been doing it for 13 years in our 2001 RB.BarryFrom:mailto:lifewithalazydazerv@yahoogroups.com Subject: [Bulk] [LD] Re: Trash storage in 26 foot LDInterested in seeing what others are doing. s/Terry Apple
Re: Trash storage in 26 foot LD Reply #6 – September 09, 2014, 05:59:40 pm Yahoo Message Number: 148567In our travels in our 26.5 MB, we keep a small (4-gallon bag size) rectangular trash basket in the bathroom which fits neatly (lengthwise) in the bottom open storage shelf. We keep a grocery store plastic bag dangling from the stove handle bar via a 2-prong hanger that goes over the handle. That bag is for soda and water bottles (we recycle where it's available). And for garbage and assorted junk we keep a 6-8 gallon rectangular basket in the 90-degree angle corner on the floor, under the sink-access door. The basket is lower than the door frame. We put a 13-gallon bag (wayyyy big for the basket) in that basket so that bag will serve as the overall trash bag as we swamp out the RV every day, adding the bathroom bag, newspapers, magazines, whatever, and bottles and cans if there is no recycle. When underway the kitchen basket goes in the shower until we stop for the day. The bottles and cans bag sways gently from its hook as we move along down the road.TinaP 2006 MB "Wild Thing"Just back from her summer vacation on Cape Cod and getting ready for a mid-October lift-off for the usual 7-month "Ramble"

Since it is a smaller container, we usually dump it each day. Mike

We have a couple glue on hooks attached to the wall over the sink that separates the galley from the bath (installed by the previous owners). They are at just the right height to hang plastic grocery bags.

We put all non recyclable and dry trash in a plastic grocery bag or waste paper can liner (depending what is available). Our wet trash as others do, goes into either a small plastic scrap bag or into a small throw away container while cooking then into the plastic bag and into the grocery bag for dumping when the trash gets dealt with Sandy VT
Re: Trash storage in 26 foot LD Reply #12 – September 11, 2014, 02:13:02 pm Yahoo Message Number: 148594It's ideal to have a small container (yogurt, sour cream, cottage cheese) or plastic bag to corral cooking scraps during prep time, and then dispose of the debris right after the meal, but this isn't always the case. I started out with a metal, three-pound coffee can (yes, metal and three pounds, so you can imagine how long ago that was!) in our 1978 Volkswagen Campmobile because it was sturdy and had a positive seal top to contain odors. Fast forward through iterations of Rubbermaid and Tupperware containers, all of which did a good job, to the Snapware cereal container that is on deck for our next adventure. We were out at the storage place yesterday to fire up the engine in hopes of a trip pretty soon, so I took this picture of the cereal container sitting at the back of the sink. I left the paper towels sitting next to it so that size could be judged by the viewer. The opening looks adequate to me for most of what I would want to put in there, but the proof will be in the pudding on the trip. (Can you tell I am getting anxious? ;-> ) It's been almost exactly two years since we've actually been anywhere, except for a run or two up and down the highway to exercise her.
Re: Trash storage in 26 foot LD now commode Reply #13 – September 11, 2014, 09:21:23 pm Yahoo Message Number: 148601Well, Judie, the first thing that came to mind was why does Judie have two chairs in the bathroom in front of the "commode"? After researching that word, I see that indeed what you have in the RB between the two chairs in the lounge area can be called a commode and it's where you store your chamber pot.Chris
Re: Trash storage in 26 foot LD now commode Reply #14 – September 11, 2014, 09:33:47 pm Yahoo Message Number: 148602Actually, uh, well, no. No chamber pot in there. Instead there are myriad boxes, explicitly labeled, of course, of neatly-arranged electronic devices and doo-dads necessary for the efficient running of a motorhome ! ;-> I never look in there unless sent to "fetch".Virtual hugs,Judie http://dorrieanne.wordpress.com
