Removal of king dome and winegard antenna to make space for solar May 30, 2014, 11:59:07 pm Yahoo Message Number: 146641I want to remove both the winegard antenna and the king dome from the roof of my 97 LD to make room for solar panels. I think being 17 years old they're probably obsolete anyways. Is this a good idea? Has anyone tried this?

I also ripped out the TV and videocassette player, freeing up a couple cubic feet of storage space. I've never been sorry.Of course eliminating the TV capability will reduce resale value, since the majority of people do watch TV (unlike me). But I don't intend to sell the rig in the foreseeable future, so I don't care. I wanted it to suit my needs, and it does. :-)Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels

I'd think it would be useless as the rv is 17 years old but I've never messed with it. I don't have a tv.

If you have an older analog TV you will most likely not receive anything. But if you have a new digital TV(like vizio 19 inch you can get them at walmarts for 140 dollars) you can get 15-30 stations in areas close to a big citydavid 2005 30 IB

The Bat antenna with an hd digital vizio will give you great high quality reception near a large city. I thought King Dome refers to the newer statellite dish antennas. david

I doubt very much that it would be able to toggle between all three satellites without reprogramming/additional parts (if that's even possible with an older dome). Of course, it should work just fine with DirecTV since you can only receive DirecTV's SD programming with a dome which means it only has to "see" one satellite, the 101. With a dome, or any satellite TV dish, it does not make any difference whether or not your TV is an older analog one or a digital one since it will be able to receive the signal from the dish and receiver. Of course, if you still have an older analog TV, you will not be able to watch programming in HD (you may be able to get the channel, but the picture will not be an HD one).Linda Hylton

It appears as though the previous owners had it put in at some point. I'm guessing sometime after 2000. Anyways I think I'm gonna remove it. If I want to tv later I'll add something newer and better right now I need that roof space and the dome is dated.
