Parking Legal???

Hi All,

I know many of you are very knowledgeable on the subject of where to park overnight without breaking the law.   I'm kinda cheap and don't like paying for an overnight in anyplace other than a picturesque place.

1. If it's BLM land, do you just pull off the highway a certain distance and stay the night or ???  I have the Ultimate Campground app and it shows BLM campgrounds.  But I know it's legal to stay anywhere on BLM land within certain limitations.  It's the BLM anywhere parking that is interesting to me.  There's lots of BLM land in the west with many roads running through them.

2. If you're in a city, how do you know that city doesn't ban overnight parking?  Many of the coastal cities in California ban overnight parking.  San Diego will soon join that crowd as there is a law pending that bans overnight parking for RVs.

3. I'm interested in any other suggestions on how you overnight park (excluding casinos, truck stops and Walmarts as I'm well aware of those alternatives).

Thanks for any help with this subject, San Diego Bob

Me, too!  I love to be able to support the energy level that the younger folk put forth for the benefit of all.  Looks quite useful, particularly if one has an internet connection at the moment to be able to drill down under the overlays.

If you are an Escapee, you can download the Days End for a nominal fee.  It's our most-used resource for finding free and inexpensive places to stay.
There are also a couple of websites that have info on free campgrounds: www.freecampgrounds.com www.freecampsites.net Also look at: www.forestcamping.com You can always go to the BLM's website for information regarding camping on their land, or stop by any BLM office for information on areas to camp in their district.

Indeed!  I have that one, too.  Very, very useful.  Easy to find places on a map, and then investigate the nitty gritty through the links available.
