Mexico Dental reference?
Yahoo Message Number: 145536
Well, looks like I'll need a little dental work done. While in Q., I heard several LD folks talking about heading on down to a Mexican Dentist they all were familiar with. Is anyone on our list familiar with that person, and if so, could you give me contact information? I'm in AZ, Glendale right now so it would be a quick drive to get there.

Thanks!

Gini, not a recommendation because I have no experience with having dental work done in Mexico, but they may be referring to this dentist in Los Algodones; she's mentioned on the 'Wheelingit.us' blog and several others as being competent and professional.

Gini,

Jimbo posted about his recent dental appointments in Algodones on his blog.

Here's one of the posts. There are subsequent ones.

Randy Vining has a pretty good post about the dentist he sees in Algodones: http://mobilecodgers.blogspot.com/2013/09/the-birth-of-dental-empire-at-algodones.html

I know several people who have gone to and recommend Rubio.

Note that I've never been to Algodones myself.

Gini, Gayle and I had work done there this past January after leaving Quartzsite. In fact, we spent time with Jim Melvin. Dr. Urena did crowns for both Gayle and I. Porcelain on metal was about $250, all porcelain was more and gold more again. We both liked Dr. Urena and the work she did for us was good.

Gayle ended up having a root canal but Dr. U doesn't do them. She was referred to Dr. Hernandez who only does endodontics and his setup is state of the art.

Dr. Rubio has an excellent reputation and he has been around for many years. His popularity is reflected by higher prices and he has so many patients that much of the work is done by others who are either dentists or students, I don't really know their credentials. I would have tried him but based on price and the recommendations I got regarding Dr. Urena we chose her.

Another LDer was having extensive work done by Rubio while we were there and seemed satisfied.

You have my email, feel free to email me direct if you want.

Over the past 5+ years Gayle and I both have had work done in various Mexican border towns and so far the work has been excellent. In fact, the surprising thing is that you can find a lot more info in online RV groups about Mexican dentist than I have been able to discover anywhere on the internet about the majority of U.S. dentists. I have also had poor work done by U.S. dentists for which I had no sensible recourse. So, I figure, if you have to roll the dice I would rather bet smaller amounts.
