Re: rrr-rrrr-rrrr in the rearend Reply #1 – February 10, 2014, 10:44:08 am Yahoo Message Number: 144991Hi rickvanfrank (no name),Do you know for certain the rrr-rrr-rrrr sound is coming from the rear axle? Does it happen at all speeds?I had a noise that sounded somewhat like a siren that seemed like it was behind our LD. I even pulled over and the noise stopped. When I started going again, there wasn't any noise until I got over 15-20mph and then I thought I heard a siren again. To shorten this story, it turned out I had a bad "carrier" bearing on the driveshaft. A Ford dealership in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory diagnosed it for me. In Canada, they call it a "steady bearing".Maybe this is what you are hearing. Good luck, Steve K.

In the bad old days, unscrupulous individuals would put saw dust or banana peels in the differential and a for sale sign on the windshield.bumper
Re: rrr-rrrr-rrrr in the rearend Reply #3 – February 10, 2014, 01:35:59 pm Yahoo Message Number: 144993Makes sense on a car, but not so much on an LD ;-) The cost of the differential repair on my '97 E350 SOB was the same as a set of tires, and rrr-rrrr-rrrr from a differential is usually not something that will disable the vehicle without warning. It may take many thousands of miles to become a problem; however, if it's a, say, driveshaft bearing, it will be cheaper (but might become a problem sooner). So, take it to a mechanic, see what your options are before worrying about it.Eric Greenwell wrote, On 2/10/2014 9:44 AM:

Beginning to wonder if the fluid that was changed in 2011 was the correct fluid.
