Best place to stay at Grand Canyon

We are picking up our new 27rb in March and will be making our way back to illinois. We plan on visiting the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Mesa Verde on the way. We are new to RVing and looking for input on the best places to stay. We will be traveling with our 3 children.

Thanks in advance! Adam

Depending upon your style (or what you think may be your style and there is no "right" or "wrong"), there are several cgs in Williams AZ, right off I-40.  One is the Grand Canyon Railway RV Park from which you can walk to the GC Railway and ride to the GC...the whole experience isn't cheap, but it may be fun with kids old enough to enjoy a 2-hour ride and young enough to not do the eye roll and give you the "Daaaaad."
East of Williams on I-40 is Walnut Canyon, another NPS site...this canyon is very walkable and quite green and is easy-in/easy-out. East of Flagstaff is the Meteor Crater, which is privately owned and operated, but interesting to see and very easy to access.  Right at the head of the I-40 exit to the Meteor Crater is a good CG (excellent bathhouse) with an  easy-access gas station.   East of Holbrook along I-40 are the Painted Desert and the Petrified Forest NP both of which are stunningly beautiful and very easy to see.

Have a wonderful maiden voyage!

March could be cold at those three places so be prepared with warm clothes and blankets.  The best places to stay at all three are IN the park's themselves. It will give everyone a great experience.
Grand Canyon has a concessionier RV park called Trailer Village. It has full hookups and you'll probably need to run your furnace for the temps. It's near the Rim itself and the free shuttle stops just outside the campground entrance.
Bryce also has campground in the park but they aren't hookups. So, for March, you could stay just outside the gate at Ruby's for hookups. It's a huge complex with restaurants, laundry, fuel, gift shops.

Mesa Verde has a campground with no hookups and one with hookups.

Have a great trip!

One place to check is www.weather.gov.
One trip late March a few years ago, we added a water hose heater for GC Village RV.  Some snow still in Park.  Ravens poked holes in the sewer hose- recommend hiding it when not in use.  Dry camped in Bryce,  they had just plowed out 2' snow.  That said, the Southwest is in a critical drought so the snow might be a problem.  Does anyone have experience of LD through the tunnels in Zion NP?
Just us, but you might look into a used copy of the Roadside Geology series for Utah and Arizona on Amazon.com

Regarding the tunnel in Zion, you can do it but only escorted (which you pay for).

Watchman Campground is fantastic.  Spent a week there last September.  If you love hiking, Zion is a great destination

This information from the Zion NP website describes the procedure for taking a large vehicle through the Mt. Carmel Tunnel.

http://www.nps.gov/zion/planyourvisit/the-zion-mount-carmel-tunnel.htm

It is not a big deal in any way; essentially, one buys a $15 'tunnel permit' when one enters the park.  When you're ready to go through the tunnel, get in line and wait for the traffic control guys with the walkie-talkies to send the line in your 'direction' through.  This is one time when you can drive down the middle of the roadway without worrying about oncoming traffic!

The 'Plan Your Visit' link at any of the national park websites offers essential information for visiting a park; do make the individual park's website a 'first stop' for travel planning. ;-)

Still cannot figure out how to change the subject to one that is more appropriate.
We have taken our 30IB through the tunnel on three occasions.  No problem.  We do disconnect the toad and go through as two vehicles.  We have never had to wait more than 10 minutes.

This is the new, improved Yahoo, you have no need for that feature.
Starting a new thread is the only way to add to the topic that I have found..

Yahoo is so messed up that I only use my PC with it. It totally throws our iPads into a tizzy when attempting to write a response.  This is the major reason I post so little now, only posting when I'm home. Having a several of long replies disappear can be discouraging.
Beside that, Yahoo mail does not work right anymore with the iPads. I constantly get the message that the server is not available and have played with it for hours in a futile attempt to fix it.

I now read Yahoo mail exclusively at the website.

Maybe someone can enlighten me/us as to how to 'fix' this, if it's 'fixable' at all.  Of course, Yahoo doesn't necessarily work real well with a PC, either, and I really doubt that the problems lie with either the iPad *or* the PC!

The geniuses at Yahoo managed to take a platform that was at least usable, and with apparently little effort or thought, 'improve' it into a cumbersome, awkward, steppy, *annoying*, obfuscating fail. Bleh!

As ever, YMMV.

Thanks for all the great tips and links! We have a lot of research to do. Keep the comments coming. We are really excited to pick up our LD and get started. Our 3 kids are 11, 9 and 1 1/2 and can't wait for the trip.

Thanks, Adam

Just to comment on Bryce:  if you have a dog, Bryce allows dogs (on leash only of course) on the paved trail around the rim of the canyon.  This is a lot more than most of the national parks.
