It's west of town between the Old Tucson mini-theme park and the Sonora Desert Museum; both of which, (especially the museum) are worth a visit. The San Xavier del Bac mission south of Tucson is also worth a visit. The Kitt Peak observatory well west of Tucson accepts visitors and is well worth seeing. I once went on a tour of the Whipple observatory south of Green Valley and got to see some very big telescopes up close and personal. That required reservations for a multi-hour tour on their bus going on one way roads to the top of the Santa Rita mountains.Linley

Re: Looking for recommendations for things to do in Tucson Reply #4 – November 02, 2013, 04:43:00 pm Yahoo Message Number: 143391I'll add my #1 favorite place to stay in the Tucson area: Gilbert Ray Campground in Tucson Mountain Park. TMP has the same beautiful scenery and ecosystem as Saguaro NP, with the addition of a great campground. To get there in a motorhome, it's best to head out of Tucson via Ajo Road (AZ 86), then turn north (right) at Kinney Rd, when you see the signs to "Old Tucson," Saguaro NP, TMP, Sonoran Desert Museum, etc. It's best not to go over Gates Pass in a motorhome. Not a safe route.Martha in Santa Fe

The latter has some nice galleries. Both are south of Tucson, not too far from Green Valley and the San Xavier Mission Church.Roz, the Wannabe
