No power to HWH leveler box
Yahoo Message Number: 142708
We picked up Ciao Baby from the mechanics in Austin, with her shiny new catalytic converter, and took her to our UT tailgating lot only to discover...
No apparent power to the HWH levelers joystick box.  No lights, nothing.  I flipped the main breakers and checked fuses in the converter area, but they seem fine.
While Ned suggested scheduling a standing weekly appointment with the mobile RV guy who comes to the tailgating lot, I'd appreciate ideas for what we can check ourselves.  The levelers worked absolutely fine prior to last week at the mechanics' (who says they didn't use them), so I'm hoping it is something simple.
Here is a picture of the box that sits beside the driver's seat:  http://www.hwhcorp.com/ml36073.pdf It's on Page 2, bottom left picture:  "225 series joystick-controlled system"

Thanks for the help, Tessa in TX '92 MB - Ciao Baby!

I recently had a 'no levelers' situation. It turned out there is a in-line fuse (like Alex mentioned) that is located on the hydraulic pump. Funny looking fuse, it is encapsulated in rubber and has a wire attached to both ends, the tech said something (a rock?) hit it and broke it. $5.00 for the fuse + $40 for labor at the factory in Iowa (I was in the area)

Thanks for the help, guys!
Reporting back in:  Today, we did find a 10 amp fuse (the flat kind) hanging in a plastic holder from the HWH leveler's box under the rig (on the same box where we refill the leveler fluid).
However, we couldn't get the fuse out (melted in there?) and didn't have a multimeter with us, so will have to proceed later. Plus, the fire ants were starting to chomp, making our task extra fun.  Thanks for the help in getting started.   Will report back when further progress.
Should we just cut off the whole fuse holder and wire on a new one?  Wonder why it is all melted together.  It IS hot in Texas- is that the cause or should I be suspicious?

Hi Tessa, a melted fuse holder usually means over current, meaning the pump motor pulled to much power from the battery possibly a short to ground. Unless the fuse holder was exposed to exhaust, it sounds life the fuse did it's job breaking the circuit before causing more harm. If you replace the fuse holder and it pops immediately or when you try to operate the jacks you will need to look at the HWH equipment for a problem like an internal short or seized pump. Make sure to use the proper sized fuse and wire pig tails, the short wires that comes with the replacement fuse holder or it will melt again. If this seems too complicated please seek help from a automotive electrical specialist or Rv service center.
