1993 Lazy Daze 26.5 MB

Good Afternoon. My husband and I are new to your group, we have been rver's for 34 years having always owned a pull trailer or 5th wheel. We sold our 5th Wheel a little over a year ago and are now looking at a 1993 26.5 mid bathroom on a Ford E350   chassis with a 460/ V8 EFI engine with an    E40D 4-speed auto transmission . How does the transmission do on downgrades? Are there any known issues in the coach or in the engine/transmission/drivetrain we might look for to help in making our decision. We have zero knowledge when it comes to motorhomes.
Also the asking price for this unit is $10,500, it has 91,500 miles on it. I checked your buy/sell and I don't remember seeing this year/unit.
Thank you so much for any input or help you may give.
Sue V Thank you so much.

Sue,  I can offer some general observations. First, you'll want to bookmark the Lazy Daze Pocket Guide website: http://www.andybaird.com/travels/LD-guide-web It has specs, floorplans, and year-by-year feature lists for all LD models since 1966, so it's an essential reference when shopping for a used LD. You'll also find some very useful information on our group's website. Under "More", choose "Files" and then "Buying and Selling." In that folder you'll find tips on inspecting a used Lazy Daze, and a list of approximate asking prices for each year and model, among other things. For a 1993 midbath, the expected asking price is around $13,000. With a twenty-year-old rig, you'll want to do a thorough inspection of both the coach and the chassis. Look at it this way: you'll be buying a house and a truck, so you need to check out both. If the rig is some distance from you, you may want to ask the group whether there's anybody who's willing to take a look at it for you. If it's in the southern California area, there are several expert members who can do a thorough inspection. You'll also want to have a Ford mechanic take a look at the chassis and drivetrain. The mileage on the odometer is less important than how well the rig has been taken care of. Ask the seller whether s/he has service records. The 460 V8 is generally regarded as a reliable engine, though not as powerful as the current V10. The E350 chassis is a good one as well, but has about a ton and a half less cargo carrying capacity than the E450 chassis currently used for the midbath model. (I'm pulling these stats from the LD Pocket Guide; you should look up any LD rig you're considering there.) As you'll be able to tell if you read the posts on the website, we love our Lazy Dazes. The independent RV Consumer Group gives this brand five out of five stars--one of only three class C motorhomes to earn their highest rating. (The other two, Born Free and Coach House Platinum, are considerably more expensive.) I've been fulltiming in a 2003 Lazy Daze midbath for seven years now; before that I vacationed and full-timed in a 1985 22' twin/king Lazy Daze for five years. (It's still on the road, by the way!) And you might want to bookmark "Eureka! Bright Ideas for Your RV":     http://www.andybaird.com/travels/LD-guide-web It's full of hints, tips and home improvement projects for any RV.

We just purchased a 1994 LD RB. We are installing a TV, now waiting for our Direct TV Dish to arrive and then we will go to an RV park and check out everything.  We love it already.  We just sold a 2007, another make, so poorly made, this 94 puts it to shame.  Ours has 52,000 miles and was taken care of like a baby.  No rips, tears, dings, original carpet

Ooops, one more thing.  We did take it to a mechanic to when we had the Steer Safe installed and at the same time had the chassis, tires, etc. checked.  It's a good idea and not really very costly.

Marijo,
Thank you for your thoughts on the "Steer Safe", my husband had something similar on his semi and we both agree that this might be a worth the money. Even though the owner lives

Sue,
This sounds like the unit (description and price) that Dick checked out for me. Perhaps he would be willing to send you a private note and some pictures.

Andy,

Thank you for your thoughts. I have opened up "Files" and it does have some excellent information. I have printed your checklist and we will ask our mechanic and rv representative to use the checklist as they inspect the unit. I will also have a copy available so that I can do some searching for problems myself. If there is a LD expert living in Arizona let me know, I would pay to have them present when we get to inspect the unit :-)! At twenty years old I expect some issues but hopefully no major  issues.

I love reading about the experiences of others and their joy in being LD owners. We are so glad this website is available

Sorry if this doesn't make sense! I'm still trying to get a handle on Yahoo's new format.
Besides being a LD owner ('04 30'IB) I am also a genealogist. It happens that I have Voorheis/Voorhees kinfolk. Only they spell it Voorhees. Until I seen your posts I didn't know that there was a second spelling. What part of the country do your forbears hail from?
