Feedback to Yahoo September 01, 2013, 02:22:08 pm Yahoo Message Number: 142416I've posted the following bug report via Yahoo's feedback link (left side of web page, near the bottom): OK, the Neo rollout was a disaster (and I speak as a group moderator with ten years of experience), but it's pretty obvious that you're not going to accede to the wishes of the majority here and ditch it. So be it. Many will leave, but for those who stay--how about fixing the many remaining bugs? 0. The group is now usable--barely--on an iPad, but what loads is a full screen of links that in the normal website view, are arrayed on the left. Many users don't even realize that the main part of the website is visible if you scroll down far enough, and conclude that it's simply unusable.1. In my group, lifewithalazydazerv, two of the subsections in our "Files" area are not accessible: "Buying & Selling" and "Repairs & Maintenance". Attempting to open either folder yields "Oops - invalid path." Since these are the only two subsections whose names contain ampersands, I'm guessing that a bug in your code is triggered by that ASCII character--even though we've had these same names in place for seven or eight years without problems. I can't even get to the subsections to rename them.2. As others have mentioned, messages posted via the website (in my case, from Safari/Mac 6.0.5) have all linefeeds and carriage returns stripped out, and appear as one long block of text on the website.3. In addition, website-originated posts show up in emails and the daily digest with HTML entities--ampersand + pound sign + numbers + semicolon--substituted for most punctuations (e.g., it's instead of it's). When the same text is posted via email, it appears as it should.4. Line numbers appear in the "Messages" view, but not in the 'Topics" view.5. "Polls," "Trending" and "Spam" are irrelevant to my group. I'd like to get rid of these and substitute links to (for example) our FAQ.Let me repeat what others have said: we're bleeding members over this shockingly buggy rollout, and are actively exploring alternatives to Yahoo. If we're forced to jump ship because the group is too buggy to use, you'll lose 5,000+ long-time customers. Clear enough? Feel free to visit the feedback page and add your vote to this complaint.Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/
Re: Feedback to Yahoo Reply #1 – September 01, 2013, 03:04:09 pm Yahoo Message Number: 142417Just to give Yahoo what little credit they deserve, be it noted that they are aware of the annoyance we feel at not having "Next" and "Previous" buttons when reading individual messages, and they do intend to fix that. Re: Feedback to Yahoo Reply #2 – September 01, 2013, 05:07:37 pm Yahoo Message Number: 142418Reading the group on my iPad, I see no changes, no ASCII codes, I get to the files with the ampersand, & I get the next & previous below each post.I guess we are still getting our money's worth ?Dave W hiding from the Labor Day Crowd

Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/I'd love to add a vote or two to your feedback complaint if only I could identify the one that belongs to you among the thousands of others. I don't see a way to locate yours specifically because there's no identifier indicated.I see that Yahoo has even found a way to insult the Lesbians!Steve S. Lazy Bones & Jiggs
Re: Feedback to Yahoo Reply #5 – September 01, 2013, 07:18:50 pm Yahoo Message Number: 142422" With Firefox 22.0 on Mac OS X 10.7.5 I can access them." Thanks, Howard. I got the same "invalid path" error with Firefox/Mac 22.0 as with Safari, but while fumbling around I accidentally discovered the (completely hidden) administrative controls for editing the folder names. (In the software design business, this is known as "Mystery meat navigation.") Thus I was able to change the names, substituting "and" for the ampersand character that apparently is choking Yahoo all of a sudden. Now the renamed "Buying and Selling" and "Repairs and Maintenance" folders are once again accessible to all.

The feedback posts are listed in order of popularity, which of course means that the ones at the top get all the votes and stay at the top of the list, while new ones are never seen and stay at the bottom. Re: Feedback to Yahoo Reply #7 – September 01, 2013, 09:21:21 pm Yahoo Message Number: 142426Thanks Andy, with you fixing the broken links all my issues are fixed - I think. I generally post from an iMac with current software. I enjoy this site and the help so much. I am still having trouble with formatting of paragraphs but I am sure that is a user issue because sometime all is good and other times it is not. (I put a line space and new para here) I have given up on the idea of being able refer to a particular photo so we could learn how to put up a tv or fix a tank. I tried to look at the photo albums from back to front but it froze up. Likely to much data I think the site goes back to 02 and there are a lot of pictures for a flicker format. (carriage returns and two line feeds) Thanks for the work you and the other mods have done. John

Re: Feedback to Yahoo Reply #11 – September 02, 2013, 01:49:25 pm Yahoo Message Number: 142436In individual message views, Yahoo has just added "" buttons to the line that shows the message name, allowing us to go to the previous or next message without backing up to the list view each time. They also say that they have fixed the formatting issues that were killing paragraph and line breaks. If this post shows up with three paragraphs, we'll know it's true. :-) Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/
Re: Feedback to Yahoo Reply #12 – September 02, 2013, 01:51:00 pm Yahoo Message Number: 142437OK, looks as if I need to hit *two* returns between paragraphs (at least when posting from the website, as I am now) in order to get a blank line. So it's better, but not completely fixed. Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/

Re: Feedback to Yahoo Reply #17 – September 02, 2013, 03:31:24 pm Yahoo Message Number: 142444" Your signature isn't a direct link to your webpage anymore." So I see. Strange... when you click on that link in my signature, Yahoo adds a "%22" to the end of the URL. I'll try it without the final slash and see whether that's any better. Re: Feedback to Yahoo Reply #21 – September 02, 2013, 04:58:09 pm Yahoo Message Number: 142449" I have to believe that a lot of these problems are Apple related." Even if that were true, Dick--and it may be true for some of the bugs we're seeing--there are approximately half a billion people currently using Apple devices of one kind or another: Macs, iPads, or iPhones. It ill behooves any major website to roll out an update without confirming that it works properly on those devices. But it's painfully obvious from what we've all been through in the past week that Yahoo did little or no testing before dropping "Neo" in all of our laps.Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/
Re: Feedback to Yahoo Reply #22 – September 02, 2013, 06:19:40 pm Yahoo Message Number: 142454No argument there. I was just making an observation that the people who are having these problems seem to be those who use Apple products. You mean they have produced Apple products beyond the Apple II? :-)Dick

See the place on the photo where it says "Restricted Group, 5048 members"? Click on "members" and you'll get the membership list.
