Best way to fill fresh water August 22, 2013, 01:34:16 pm Yahoo Message Number: 142156I have a '88 22' unit and I'm wondering if there is a trick to filling the fresh water. It was so slow with the hose I bought one of the those smaller diameter clear tube "filler hoses" at a RV store. It makes it a little better but it still take 30 minutes or more to add 5 gallons. It splashes backs, girgles, hickups, etc even with a trickle.I suspect there is a trick to this filling. Please enlighten me.Thanks,

(You can't fill a straw from below if your finger is on the top end.) Be sure somebody is inside to turn the faucet off when it starts to run when the tank is full and builds up pressure. At that point though it should backwash around the hose filling the tank.

Depending on how hard the water is that has been used in that coach over time, those vent tubes can fill with debris and mineral deposits. No venting makes for slow filling and lots of wasted water that splashes back, as you've learned. Opening a faucet and turning off the pump is an easy band-aid to allow venting. Vinegar poured down the vent tube may help, but it may take several tries since there might not be a way to plug the vent tube and allow the vinegar to work on those deposits over a long period of time. There may be a way to clean it, though I'm not sure... I fill my hose with a 1/2" diameter hose on full blast. Works like a charm, fills in about 10 minutes.Tyler F 2001 26RB

Some LDs have filler inlet hose that are bent at a sharp angle and will not fill quickly, no matter what type of filler you use. If the previously mentioned fillers do not work satisfactory for you, a bottom fill system will. I built one for our LD and can run the hose at full volume, filling the tank in a few minutes, as fast as the hose's output allows. It uses the water tank's drain as the input. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lwade/sets/72157602095133804/Larry
