Coach water pump leak under pressure
Yahoo Message Number: 142108
I'm posting this in case anyone else has a similar issue...the fix has worked so far....
Last time out camping I noticed water on the floor around the water pump.  I pulled it yesterday and found that the gasket/seal between the water pump motor and the pump itself had a slow leak.  While camping we didn't leave the lines pressurized and this seemed to prevent the pump from leaking, so what we did for the few days still camping was to turn on the faucet or toilet, then turn on the pump and then shut off the pump and let the lines drain before closing the faucet.  Since there was nothing wrong with the motor I tried to get a new gasket at a couple of RV places.  No one had one in stock but the parts guy at Camping World told me to try some RTV silicon around the gasket so thats what I did.  I separated the motor from the pump and applied a solid bead around the entire seamed surface area.  The RTV instructions were to wait 24 hours before trying it.  I reassembled it and installed it again yesterday but didn't test it until today.....and it works!!  No more leak, so far anyway.  Our unit is a 2002 MB.  The removal job is not really difficult if you can lay on your stomach and work with your hands for a while.  2 wires and 2 hoses to remove along with 4 mounting screws for the pump itself and a couple of cable ties to cut open.
