CAN SEE LD FOR SALE August 08, 2013, 12:15:26 am Yahoo Message Number: 141881Hi, We followed the directions to the For Sale area, but can not get anything to open. Nothing in folders when we click on them. Any suggestions as to how we see the ads. Are they able to post photos, etc on the site? Thanks for your help.Marijo Miller[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Re: CAN SEE LD FOR SALE Reply #1 – August 08, 2013, 08:52:14 am Yahoo Message Number: 141886I have noticed that many of the files do not have the file type tagged on them at the end...example: .txt .doc .docx...etc.On my Windows XP computer it downloads the file and then I need to either rename it by adding ".txt" usually. Or I "choose program" to open it, usually Notepad, and it automatically opens it.Hope this helps

Adding that extension should make it possible for Windows to open them. (Mac OS X users don't have this problem, because the OS is smart enough to figure out the file's type.) Why were the filename extensions not there in the first place? Because Yahoo used to open these files in your browser, so it didn't matter. But a few months ago they made a change--god knows why--so that now the files are downloaded to your computer instead. It's a pain, but we haven't been able to convince them to change back to the old way of doing things.Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/

On my phone, the files download just as Andy noted. After the download is complete, the files can be opened and read. On my notebook(not an i-product)I only get a message saying Document can not be found. They don't even download to be opened.I'm guessing this happened after yahoo changed to a download since I could open files when we sold our '97 in 2010 and think I have opened them on the notebook after that. Interestingly, on both iPhones and iPads the files are displayed in the browser--just as they used to do on all devices. No downloads, no separate files to open. I wish I could get the same behavior from my desktop Mac, but at least it opens the extension-less downloads without any difficulty.Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/
