2 Coach-Net experiences

Roadside assistance providers are a recurring topic.  In this post, I describe two experiences I had with Coach-Net during the last two years.  In summary, I eventually got the service I needed, but there's plenty of room for improvement.
Both cases were on non-holiday weekdays.  A flat tire needed to be replaced by the good spare.
I've changed actual names to generic names like "agent 1" in most cases.

First experience, in Southern California near the city of San Bernardino:
12:09 I called Coach-Net, and got agent 1.  She said contractor 1 should arrive by 13:20.
13:14 Agent 2 called me.  She said contractor 1 cancelled because they didn't have the right equipment.
13:24 Agent 2 called me.  She said contractor 2 would arrive by 14:00.

14:15 I called Coach-Net, and got agent 3.
14:24 Contractor 2 arrived while I was speaking with agent 3.  They had no sockets, torque wrench, compressor, or even a wrench for the spare tire cover.  The only useful tool they had was a 4-ton bottle jack.  Using that and the Ford-supplied lug wrench, they changed the tire.  I used my compressor to inflate the spare to the right pressure.

15:14 Tire change complete.

Second experience, at Grand Canyon South Rim:
9:27 I called Coach-Net, and got agent 4.  She said my member number wouldn't "pull up."
9:47 After a long time mostly on hold, I got Wayne in administration.  He confirmed that my membership was in force.
9:52 I was transferred to agent 5.  She said contractor 3 would arrive within 1 hour.
10:32 Contractor 3 arrived.  He told me he needed to get some tools, and would be back in 10-15 minutes.  I never saw or heard from him again.
11:59 I called Coach-Net, got agent 6, and gave him my service request number.  After several minutes he found my ticket.

12:09 Agent 6 said service was on the way.
12:30 Steve arrived from Golightly Michael M & Associates in Flagstaff.  He had driven from Flagstaff, about 82 miles.
He had a truck with a big compressor, air wrenches, jacks, and all the right sockets.

13:00 Tire change complete.

Since I've never used any other roadside service, I don't know if another company would have been better or worse.
If you choose Coach-Net, I recommend paying by credit card, then saving the credit card bill so you can prove you're really a member.

Just a word about Good Sam ERS.  We've been using Class C motor homes for about 35 years now, with road service from Good Sam. In the early years, we had some older well used motor homes that did need towing on a relatively frequent basis.  I do not recall ever having had to go through anything remotely like these described experiences with Coach-Net.
Always taken care of by the first responder, either by being towed to a shop that could handle the work, or by being handled at the breakdown site. They've just been great.

Well, that's certainly a dissapointment to read. Especially the part about having to prove you are really a member. I thought I would just have to give my number and I would hear something like "Ok Mr. Johnston, how can we help you".
My only experience was with GoodSams and somewhat negative in that the operator didn't seem to know much (poor thing did the best she could). But at least they knew I was a member right away. Then I switched to Coach-Net because of reports here. Maybe it will be someone else next year after this report.

You can find good and bad reports about ANY towing service.
To give a good experience with Coach-Net...this past fall on our way to Arizona, we were about 25+ miles south of Alturas, CA on US-395.  Starting the climb up to Sage Hen Summit, our transmission light came on so we pulled off the road at a wide spot, which just happen to be the road that heads west to Dry Creek Campground.  We had just one bar on the phone, but it was enough to call Coach-Net.  We ended up getting towed back to Alturas; in fact, we had TWO tows...one for the truck and one for the fifth wheel, which we had requested.  I didn't keep tract of the time between the time I called and the time the tow trucks showed up, but it probably wasn't much more than an hour.
We have also, by the way, had good service from Good Sam's ERS...once for a tow, once for a flat tire change.

I'm sorry to hear about your bad experiences, Howard. As Linda pointed out, no service is perfect. However, if you search our group's message archives, you'll find many, many favorable stories about Coach-Net, and few if any negative reports. In short, I'm afraid you were just unlucky... but in my experience, Coach-Net is recommended by more serious RVers than any other service provider.

Another vote for Coach-Net. When my toad's rear axle locked up Coach-Net towed it to my personal mechanics house (22 miles) without question. I believe the agreement says they are only obligated to tow to nearest repair shop. They went above and beyond without question.

Barry I have good Sam and the only time I needed it it was a nightmare. Waited 8 hours for first responder who couldn't do anything then they told the tow service that did show up I had a 40 foot when I had a 22 foot  class c so a huge wrecker showed up then left and the same company sent a smaller one.

Recently someone posted here about being dropped by good sam so I checked ours and we had been dropped as well so we switched to coach net. we recently got a good tow from our home to a shop about 8 miles away. The reason I'm writing is because I used my Discover Card to pay for my coach net membership. It's the only thing I use it for all year though it was on file at amazon.
Shortly thereafter the card was compromised and 3 fraudulent purchases were made on amazon with my Discover card so I had to cancel it and get a new number. I don't know where the fraudsters got my number, either from Coach Net or amazon but they got it.
It could have been amazon since last year my amazon chase card was was also compromised. Both those cards were on file at amazon. I was covered in both cases but it was a pain to go through the cancellation process.
The purchases didn't show up in my amazon orders so I have no idea how someone can use someone else's card to buy something and not have it show up on the person's order records, does anyone?
We also had good road service with AAA though they didn't have a big enough tow truck they recommended one and paid for it.

I imagine the thief associated your credit card with a bogus account.  For example I added my daughter's card to my account so she could get free shipping (I have amazon prime and she doesn't).  The purchases I make for her are charged to her card but show up on my Amazon account.
