Is there any general consensus regarding service at Camping World? My initial experience with a "Mobile RV Guy" has been a mixed bag and I'm looking at other options. I like camping world's website and national presence. It sure would be convenient to switch to them knowing they will be fairly easy to find. I also like their brochures that come in the mail offering specific services for a specific price. Do they stick to this and generally do good work?

Had them (Valencia, CA) replace the roof air in our '83. It worked fine and no leaks for the several years before we sold it. They did not break anything during installation. So, our experience was fine. However, it was a direct swap-out, the unit came with full instructions and materials, and it is perhaps the only roof item not polyurethane sealed to the roof. From other horror stories about CW work, I would be reluctant to have them do anything that required initiative or decision making, or was more invasive.
 As with any repair facility, having work done without thoroughly vetting the specific facility (not just the chain) is a crap-shoot.

I vote no. I've had work done by Camping World a number of times in the last twelve years, generally because I was lazy, the store was nearby (specifically, in Swedesboro/Bridgeport, NJ and Albuquerque, NM), and it was a "name brand."
 The main problem is a lack of consistency from one store to the next, and even from one specialty to the next within the same store. For example... while the Bridgeport store did a terrific job of replacing my old rig's stove (done in two hours flat, and the installation looked great even though they had to piece it with wood because of the new stove's four inches greater height), they fouled up a toilet replacement, causing a flood. And later fouled up a winterizing job, causing a cracked sink sprayer. And fouled up a water pump replacement job, causing another flood (missing gasket caused major leak; installation was obviously never tested). I guess whoever did plumbing at Bridgeport was incompetent.
 The Albuquerque store did the same stove upgrade in my new rig, but it took them TWO DAYS instead of two hours, and they overcharged me outrageously for the wood trim they used (the job required two board feet; they charged me for twelve!), which I didn't even realize until a month later, when it was too late to complain. They installed my catalytic heater half an inch above floor level, so that I have to put down a silicone mat when I use it, to avoid melting the vinyl flooring. I could go on, but you get the picture.
 The bottom line is that letting Camping World do maintenance or upgrades is a crapshoot, and based upon my experience and the horror stories I've heard from others over the years, your chances of losing are better than even. I wouldn't go back there.

I won't bore you with the details, but my experiences with work done at Camping World are almost identical to Andy's.  I have used the CW in Denver, CO, because it's near where I live, and their stores in Tucson, AZ, and Fairfield, CA.  In went to Denver because it was easy, and the other two because we were on the road.   They worked on TV antennas, refrigerator, electrical, generator, and HWH levelers.  The only job done well was installation of the HWH levelers.  Their work on the refrigerator and the generator had to be redone when I finally found a good RV shop near where I live.  Like Andy, I will only go to CW if I'm on the road and it's an emergency.   A 50-50 chance of getting good work is not good enough.  Gale PS:  While at home or on the road I have found Angie's List very reliable, and their membership cost is only about $15 a year.  Check them out.
