Transmission Not Working Properly on 2000 26.5 MB

Last night our transmission in our 2000 Lazy Daze E450 started acting very badly.  When stopped it will not go forward and only makes a wurring sound and so must be put into 1st low gear to get going and then when going can be put into drive.  But then it started to make a constant wurring sound a little quieter and so we stopped and hobbled into the Topaz Hotel and Casino 75 miles South of Reno.  Called Coach-Net for a tow but it's Sunday and most likely Monday morning before can establish where to take it..  We are fine here but I need to know if anyone knows what  might be wrong?  Any place good to have the repair done or where to find out best place?  Also, how I should instruct Coach-Net on Monday morning.

Any help wold be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

Doug, I read Tery's email to you. Sounds like a place nearby you can trust. I would do as he recommends and either go in and chat or give the owner a call. Carson Valley is a small word of mouth place so you probably will be ok. I think you got the dreaded 2000 trans that has had problems in the past. Hopefully it is something simple but you never know. I wouldn't ry to drive it as if the torque converter is bad it will just fling more metal around inside. Good luck. Wish I could help but you need the big guys for this. Take care. Let me know what happens if you have time. Hi to Beth and Heidi. See ya, john

Doug, I'm sorry to hear about your problems! You've already had good advice. Let me just add that if you don't have a specific place in mind, Coach-Net will do their best to find a place that can handle your repairs.

Before I plunge into either can anyone give the pros and cons of Coach-Net and I think it's called Good Sam that is thru Camping World and that might even be incorrect. Thanks in advance Jan/Scottsdale AZ.

 Most of us prefer Coach-Net. For more information on the pros and cons, use Yahoo's search command to look for messages on this topic--it's been extensively discussed over the years.

Good Sam ERS and CoachNet ERS are two separate companies.
 We've had both at one time or another and have received good service from each, most currently for a tow from CoachNet.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune.  But look at the bright side, once you get south of Topaz, say around Mammoth and Bishop, the next good transmission mechanic is Palmdale. Guess there may be one in Ridgecrest but I'm not sure. If you don't mind me asking, how many miles on your coach?

I would not do business with Bob's Performance, Gardnerville, NV.
 A friend had a 'less than pleasant experience' with them. Ethics are important. Read the Yelp reviews.

We and other friends have been pleased with the work of Carson Truck & Auto Repair, 775-883-7770.  Tho I would imagine that for tranny work they would sub it out for repair.  Hints of snow

Thanks Rodger;
 Yes I have a Scan Guage II and all seems normal before and after.  The trany came full of Ford fluid and so I shall change it out at 5K to 10K to synthetic as I just did not want to deal with it at the time.  I think since I had been watching things closely before they did not give me the second degree, however I shall be watching this new trany closely.  I have tried to break her

Doug, Beth & Heidi,
 You've repaid the favor of recommending Carson Valley Transmission by posting here your satisfaction with their work. I'd used them a bit for some non-motorhome repairs and was planning to use them for my next LD transmission service. I'll be more confident doing that with your recommendation.
 We once had a transmission failure on a Taurus. Our mechanic said he could rebuild it and he did. It had problems aga

Hey Doug. Do you have a ScanGuage to monitor trans temp? Did you get
synthetic oil in trans? Did they tell you to change out the original oil on a short interval? What did they say about oil life, trans temp and towing?

Hi everyone;

Just to update the 2000 Ford Transmission failure. We had 66,000
miles and since I had preformed fluid change and everything was full and running cool it was just a plain and simple transmission failure. Cost is $3600.00 for everyone's knowledge. I used a place that turned out to be wonderful called Carson Valley Transmission. Let us stay in the RV while waiting for the new Ford Certified and Rebuilt Transmission with a 36 month and 100,000 mile warranty good at any Ford dealership in the US. These folks have best business award for the last 8 years and even changed my oil free. We are on the road again in Zion National PArk and our LD is purring like a kitten.

The 1999 to 2003 F350 had a trouble in the transmition.  Ford would do
nothing about it.  We replaced our 2001 at 67,000 miles.
