Digital TV antenna peaking... March 28, 2013, 09:57:29 pm Yahoo Message Number: 137810There are a couple of devices designed to allow tuning your RV antenna for peak reception that I have seen. The advantage is that you can find the directions with good digital signal strength BEFORE running a station scan with your TV. One is a Winegard for about $80 and the other costs about $40. I checked out those at CW the other day. Neither fit the bill well, though. The Winegard unit has digital numerical readouts for signal strength and detector sensitivity (adjustable), and is designed to replace the Winegard power supply for the head unit. However, it has no antenna or power jacks on the front, which means you STILL have to cut a new hole to install those. Another disadvantage is that the display may not be visible from where you are turning the antenna mast. The $40 unit simply connects to an antenna jack and 12V, and can be in series with the TV or not. It is designed for surface mount, which at least means you could orient it for visibility - if not for ideal aesthetics. It has a single row of LEDs to indicate signal strength, and adjustable sensitivity too. I bought neither, because what I would like is a feature similar to that incorporated in our previous digital TV converter - an audio tone. When set to that function, orienting the antenna for maximum signal for any received station peaked the frequency of the tone - very easy, no-look operation. Is anyone aware if there exists such a device for the digital TV spectrum for antenna positioning?Steve

It finds you and gives you info in distance and degrees where the stations are. http://www.palgear.com/m/ Otherwise, I point it to the highest mountain.Joe Hamm

If one thinks installing another jack is a big deal, well that would be a negative I guess. IMO that was pretty trivial. However, if you can't see the digital readout from where you turn the antenna, it becomes a two person operation. In our TK the readout is highly visible. Tom

Joe Hamm Hi Joe, sounds like some apps for smartphones I've heard of. Unfortunately, on most trips where it matters, we have no idea where we'll be staying ahead of time; and we don't have internet when we travel. And our phones are pretty dumb.Steve
