BATTERY DESULPHATOR/CHARGER

Has anyone had any experience using a batter battery desulphator to recharge their battery. Claims are that many "dead" batteries can be rejuvinated enough to last many more years. Does anyone use one of these chargers? If so, which brand? Dale from Downey.

Dale.. You might want to checkout the battery tender devices that I think you can get at local auto parts stores or online.
I did some research on them a while back and it seemed like they worked OK -- there are even a few that use a solar panel to do the desulphering (if that's a word).. I've even seen some people who've designed their own circuit boards to do the same using square waves (if I recall) or was it pulsing.. I don't recall anymore..

Once a battery is badly sulphated, it is difficult or impossible to recover the lost capacity. Better not to have it happen in the first place.
When buying a new converter or battery charger, look for a charger that has 4-stages or an equalization mode.
The 4th stage is a daily, short-term, high-voltage charge, that is used to break down sulphates as they form.
Most aftermarket larger converters, and many solar controllers, have this feature .

Dale.. I may have been thinking about the Battery Minder which does do that -- again I've got no direct experience and as Larry pointed out there may be better devices out there that do all 4 stages -- I've not looked at the specs for the batteryminder to see what all it does.. YMMV.
