Extending manual Step on older '85 LD

Hi all.. So I never bothered to extend the step into the new-to-us LD until this weekend -- it's got a lever on the left side that seems to move easy enough but the step doesn't easily retract.. Perhaps it's just an issue of grease -- probably.  In any event, is it just a matter of squeezing the level and giving it a yank towards you (to the curb) or is there some sort of upward/downward motion as well? Unfortunately I've not had the time to crawl underneath to see how it's setup under there..  Since we're hoping to take it out next week, I thought I might want to find out how to operate it prior to departure..

Thanks!

Hold lever down, then push up on step to release. Same to retract.

Maybe it needs to be lubricated, but....
I drug mine against a curb and had a fair amount of straightening and adjustment to do before I could get it down again.
I hope yours only needs grease GP Registered Antique LD Driver
