Progressive surge suppressor voltmeter accuracy October 08, 2011, 11:44:28 am Yahoo Message Number: 125827If you have a Progressive Industries surge suppressor, have you checked the accuracy of the built-in voltmeter? The voltmeter in my EMS-LC-HW30 reads about 4 volts higher than my other voltmeters (Fluke 77 and Electra Check, which read the same). If the actual voltage is 129 volts, the surge suppressor indicates 133 volts, which is above the 132-volt high voltage threshold, so the surge suppressor turns off my electricity. At my current campsite, I've measured the voltage at the pedestal as high as 131 volts, with nothing connected except a voltmeter.I called Progressive Industries tech support. They say the built-in voltmeter can't be calibrated, and they suspect my voltmeters are reading too low. The campground owner is sure they're reading too high. For now, I've bypassed the surge suppressor, which is a pain and something I really don't like to do.

AC voltage, the Electra reads RMS, and they read the same, as you'd expect on utility AC power, which has sine wave AC. So, I suspect the suppressor is reading high, but have not ever checked one. Do you know why the campsite AC is so high? 120 VAC is the norm, so 9 volts higher is a lot. Perhaps you can call the utility that supplies the camp site for their reading of the voltage they are supplying. There may be a system problem.Eric Greenwell

It reads 120-VAC while both of my Fluke meters indicate 118.5-119.0-VAC. So the surge suppressor reads 1-2 volts high. Never had a problem with high-voltage shutoff but have seen the low-voltage shutoff a couple of times.Larry
