Quartzsite must do's?
Yahoo Message Number: 119513
Hi everyone,

Mary and I are headed to Quartzsite in about a week or so, and I was wondering if anybody had any must do/see sort of things we should check out. From what I know of the place, it isn't really the kind of thing we would normally be interested in, but I am working on a photography project about full-timers, and it seems like this is the place to be right around now. We will be there after January 19th for a week or so.
If any of you are going to be there, and are full-timers, I'd love to stop by for a visit and maybe a photo or two. Let me know, either here or e-mail me offline at davidg at lightight.com

Hope to here from some of you,

Best,
David

We've been there only once, 2 years ago. Quartzsite is its own event...basically one drifts along the various tents and "shows" and their displays/offerings. You will find, as you explore said tents and "shows," RVs and their owners which haven't moved in at least as it would take for their tires to rot in the sun. Also to be explored are the various encampments on BLM lands of RVers in for the season or just for a while.
Other than going to the bookstore with the nekkid owner (we missed that, but have read of), viewing the sign for the Quartzsite Yacht Club for the sake of "say whaaaa?," and going to the Hi Jolly monument and researching his story (very, very interesting), not much else beyond what's described in paragraph 1.
I would expect, however, you'd find lots and lots of full-timers and long-time full-timers, at that.
Some folks think it's the coolest spot in the world and wouldn't miss their annual visit, some find great bargains, some meet friends and make new ones...we found it to be generally a grubby yawn and plan to give it a pass in the future.

As always and forever, YMMV.
