Black & Decker Tools | 110 Amp Engine Start - 40 Amp / 20 Amp / 10 A December 11, 2010, 02:31:53 pm Yahoo Message Number: 119000Judie, I have been doing the "Battery Reconditioning" procedure to all the lead acid batteries I have in service at our cattle ranch. This includes both automotive and deep cycle marine batteries. Some are the AGM type. This requires a special battery charger (see the Black & Decker link below) that will perform this task. This is a battery charger that is hard to find in any store. I try to recondition all our batteries (13 at last count which includes the 5-LD batteries) at least once a year. The "Recondition Cycle" is started after the battery has been fully charged. It takes 24-hours to complete. The process reduces or eliminates the sulfates that build up on the led plates which in turn extends (usually doubling) the battery life. I just replaced a very large 12VDC John Deere tractor battery after 7- years of service. Usual reconditioned battery life is about 6-years for a 3-year rated (good quality) battery. This charger will also handle 6-VDC batteries. This is better explained on the web link under additional info - instruction manuals. This charger was originally made by Victor Electronics (I have had one for about 10-years) but was later re-marked by Black & Decker (which I also have). Even though it is a bit pricy, the return is well worth the cost. Hope this helps, Mike http://www.blackanddecker.com/power-tools/VEC1093DBD.aspx[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Re: Black & Decker charger Reply #3 – December 12, 2010, 03:10:58 pm Yahoo Message Number: 119012The description of that charger says that it equalizes for 24 hours; Concorde says to equalize for six hours. That alone would rule out using it in that mode for AGMs, as far as I'm concerned. In addition, I don't see any specification for the equalizing voltage. Concorde says 15.5V, but who knows what the B&D charger does?Andy Baird http://www.andybaird.com/travels/

Apparently the "battery reconditioning" mode can be used for AGMs. But I don't know physically what the charger is doing to the battery in this mode, nor do I know if Concord approves this procedure for their AGMs.Tom Johnston, Red 2000 TK, Whidbey Is., WA........rain
