Five Dollar Dump Charge At Flying J March 15, 2010, 10:56:05 am Yahoo Message Number: 111043Went in to Flying J on I-5 & State 12 West of Lodi, CA. Filled up with propane and gasoline. Went to dump and noted locked dump. Then noticed control box with credit card slide and token slot asking for $5 dump charge. Picked up intercom and said "I just filled up with gas and propane and noticed dump charge. Since I filled up, can I get a token? Do you want to buy a token? was asked. I said not especially but I was hoping since I made these purchases perhaps I could get a free dump? Nope. I asked if this was company wide or just this location. I was told it is company wide. I predict that this will not last.

Re: Five Dollar Dump Charge At Flying J Reply #5 – May 20, 2010, 09:44:32 pm Yahoo Message Number: 112734I spoke earlier today to a rep from Flying J re the fee as I hadn't seen anything posted in their location listing. He advised this was a decision hey had to do or close the dumps, indicating that in many areas the local authorities were putting pressure on them to lock or close. The dump station in Brunswick GA had been closed for a long time & recently in the past months has reopened with a charge..It was told to me by various employees at different times that the county required the changeover and that FJ does have a sewer fee they pay. On the trip we are on now the FJ in Columbia SC,& Rockhill, SC also are charging. The fee is $10.00 BUT with the FJ card it is $5.00.Many state rest areas that had dump stations are now closed. When I visit my daughter in SC the closest dump is at an RV park and they charge either $ 4 or $ 5.oo It's been nice not having to pay, maybe there are other free dump places but I've not yet found one. Maybe calls to Flying J in mass may get a more definitive answer and even a reduction in the fee.SylviaThe DogHouse '96 30IB
Re: Five Dollar Dump Charge At Flying J Reply #6 – May 20, 2010, 10:04:01 pm Yahoo Message Number: 112737At risk of sharing classified information, but better than me just restating it, here's what I heard (another reason to join Escapees- wonderful info!), TessaFlying J Dump Stations - Change in Policy 05/06/2010 We have heard from some traveling Escapees that a few Flying J truck stops with RV dump stations are beginning to charge a use fee. We contacted Flying J and received the following statement from their customer loyalty department: To continue providing waste dump station services at Flying J, we are instituting a $10 fee to customers using this service. This has become necessary to cover the increasing costs of offering this amenity. These additional fees include: Escalating expenses associated with normal usage and the misuse and abuse of waste dump stations Rising costs from local sewer treatment service providers Increasing expenditures linked to stringent corporate responsibilities For our best customers, those that are members of Flying J's Frequent Fueler and RV Real Value clubs, a $5.00 dump station coupon will be added to their card based on fuel purchases. The club member must present their card to cashier at point of purchase to receive the discount. We appreciate your business and look forward to continuing to offer the best services and facilities in the industry. Flying J also stated that the program is being implemented at all Flying J locations in the next week. Some will be monitored by a device that will allow you to pay at the dump, others will require the customer to come inside to pay for the service. Be aware that you will soon be required to pay a fee to use the RV dump at Flying J.

Re: Five Dollar Dump Charge At Flying J Reply #8 – May 20, 2010, 10:25:07 pm Yahoo Message Number: 112739I hope this trend doesn't motivate more to dump illegally. Coming west on Nevada's Hwy 50 last year, we pulled over to take a break at the side of the road, pulling in behind one of those huge mounds of gravel the road department strategically places prior to winter. Some thoughtless RV'ers had been stopped there before and dumped their blackwater tank. Disgusting.bumper[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Re: Five Dollar Dump Charge At Flying J Reply #9 – May 21, 2010, 09:33:14 am Yahoo Message Number: 112748QuoteMaybe calls to Flying J in mass may get a more definitive answer and even a reduction in the fee. The definitive answer is that Flying J has made a corporate decision to start charging for dumping (it may have actually come from their new owners, Pilot). Frankly, I don't think $5 is too high a fee for dumping...a lot of places charge more, sometimes considerably more. It does take money to keep a dump up...besides other things like water, they have to pay someone to clean up after the inconsiderate slobs out there who drive up to a dump and let rip, sans sewer hose! I'm more than willing to pay $5 for a dump and I will not get behind any grass roots movement to either boycott Flying J, as some people have suggested, or to try and get them to lower their fee. YMMV.Linda Hylton http://earl-linda.blogspot.com/

Here's one resource http://sanidumps.com/sanidumps_usamerica.php Don't count it being up to date. "Out west" we have found dumps in small towns at facilities for cattle sales.FJ has some of the best RV islands. The new owners are not as RV friendly, they want to make them pay. Just a biz decision.Cheers, Don

For example, there are only two places in San Jose which offer dump facilities; Sani-dumps lists the charges at one at $15.00, but the person on the phone said that the charge was $20.00. The other place charges $25.00! Maple Leaf in Morgan Hill charges $10.00. (At least, they used to; it may be more now.) The dump charge in San Lorenzo County Park (King City, CA) went from $4.00 to $10.00 sometime during the last year. I think that a $5.00 dump charge is *very* reasonable! Re: www.sanidumps.com I've found this site to be very useful to locate dump stations when traveling. Sani-dumps depends on input from "dumpers" as the most reliable way to keep their listings current. If users find an inaccurate/outdated listing, please report the current situation to the website owners.Joan
