I had a tread separate, at 65 MPH on I-95

I had a tread separate, on front passenger side of my RV. I bought the Chevy based Class C, used in 2003, tires looked new. I only put about 4K a yr on my RV, so the tread had not been used up yet.
I was on I-95, going about 65 MPH, when this happened. I didn't have any trouble maintaining control, but if the tire had blown-out, it might have been a different story.
The whole thing was a little scary. Here is an ABC-News story about tire age. The danger is real!

Most folks who bought a used LD in 2003 would have replaced all tires a year or two ago regardless of tread. Tread is not the issue. Age is.

If the tires on your rig were manufactured in 2003, they are now 7 years old...long past the time when they should be replaced, particularly if the rig sits a lot.

We have had a front blowout at a similar speed in our '83. These Chevy chassis, if properly maintained, are very stable when blowouts occur. It is a very scary noise, though.

Our 2003 LD tires were replaced two years ago after reaching the manufacturers maximum AGE of six years. They had less than 40,000 miles on them.
It hurts to throw away what seems to be good rubber but looks can be deceiving. Safety First! Glad you came through it OK.
