Help needed. Have lost shore power
Yahoo Message Number: 104890
2000 LD 26 1/2 IB.
While turning on air cond. lost shore power. Assumed since breakers were ok, that low power in cg was problem. Manager was to look at it. Returned late, and found we still have no shore power. Power at the pedestal is good, our line monitor is showing good also, but no power at the rig. Have checked all breakers. Working on batteries and propane on frig. What am I missing? What can I check?
On reading previous posts am aware that air cond has a reset button. Could this be causing problem?  Any help appreciated. TIA Norma

Have not tried that yet. Did charge with engine. Also, converter- Magnetek 6345Q reads 13.03 with multimeter. Could it be a problem with relay or changeover? Is there a reset on converter? Have not had previous problem. Am not currently at the rig (needed to use computer). We are parked near Grand Rapids, MI, planning to go to Elkhart, IN tomorrow. Thanks for all help and discussion. njt

We had a similar problem several months after picking up our LD.  In building the LD, one of the wires for the exterior outlet into which the 30-amp cord is plugged was stripped too far back.  The outlet finally turned just enough to allow that bare wire to touch one of the screws used to attach the outlet to the rig.  It shorted out our electrical system and blew the 15-amp GFI breaker which we had to have replaced.  We couldn't get anything to work off shore power, but our generator ran everything just fine...a good thing, too, since, at the time, we were in Spokane with temperatures well above 90 degrees!
If you go back in the archives to August 2004, you'll note a post from me about the problem we had...I think the post was titled "electrical problem" or something similar.  Sorry, but I don't know the post number.
I don't know if that's your problem, but I'd start looking for a short in the electrical system starting with the exterior 30-amp outlet.

Linda, Thanks for the tip. Will check that out. Our 30A cord is attached directly, but with a 9 yo rig, could have come loose rolling down the road. Norma>

Have you also checked your 15-amp GFI breaker?  You might want to go buy a new one (they're not expensive) and replace the one you currently have.  I don't know if you can tell that this breaker is bad just by looking at it as you can with a fuse.

Linda, Checked the breaker (as to reset), but it is very hard to know if it worked. I understand you must push down aggressively, but cannot tell if I got it. I assumed since nothing works on power i.e.Microwave or Air, that the GFCI breaker would not affect them. Perhaps that is not true. And the generator working would not indicate a problem with the breaker? Trying to learn. Norma

I don't know Norma...that answer is way beyond my knowledge of electricity! ;-)  All I know is that when we had our electrical problem, the 15-amp breaker was also fried.  That may have been in addition to the initial problem of the bare wire touching the screw as I mentioned, not the cause of it.

No.  At least when we had our electrical problem, our generator still ran just fine and the A/C and other items worked just fine (I don't remember whether or not individual AC outlets worked, but our TV and satellite receiver worked.

"2000 LD 26 1/2 IB  Miss Dazey and DD (CRV) Update:  In Elkhart, IN at Charger Ent. getting a new transfer switch. Came at 1:30, got right in to check it; ordered new switch which should be here in the morning. Boondocking in the parking lot. Could have power (if we had the ability). Will be putting it below the bottom shelf under the sink. Think it should work out. Will let you know how it goes. Thanks for all the help. Norma"
Norma, make sure the white reset button is not stuck (pushed in) in its housing.  That will prevent it from resetting the main breaker.  This happened to me a while back.  I gather you have determined it's the transfer switch so this is probably a moot suggestion.

Chris, Reset button not the problem.(so says the Tech.) Does not seem stuck. At least Tech says transfer switch. Really appreciate all the tips. Hopefully back to shore power later today.

Final word, (I hope) Transfer switch replaced. When Tech was checking result- got a reverse polarity. "Found dead short in the junction box." Heated and burned connection from a loose wire. Probably took out the transfer switch. Could have had a fire! So, we are back in business.
I would definitely recommend "Charger Enterprises" Elkhart, IN for a repair service. Very accommodating; worked with us; showed me what he expected needed to be done. Went a bit over estimate due to the additional problem. Prompt service; we were very pleased.

Thanks everyone for your help. Norma
