Electrical cord update August 03, 2009, 01:44:29 pm Yahoo Message Number: 104448I got the cord plug switched out to a new one...interesting (to me), when I started stripping the wires to be attached to the new plug, the black wire was blackened for about 18" - that's how much I ended up cutting off the cord. I figured the blackened wire was not healthy. At some point (sooner than later), I will completely switch out the house cord.Got the generator running again with a new fuel filter and air filter. Thanks for Everyone's help on this!Cheers, Helen (with SOB)[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Give all the screwed connections a good coating of dielectric grease and seal things if possible.Larry

Re: Electrical cord update Reply #3 – August 03, 2009, 02:31:39 pm Yahoo Message Number: 104452"What is dielectric grease, and where does one get it?"Helen Dielectric grease is a NON-conducting grease that seals out moisture and therefore prevents corrosion on electrical connectors. I use it on all sorts of electrical connections, plugs and light-bulb bases to keep the contacts clean and conductive. It is also sold as 'Tune-up grease'. It is available at most auto parts, marine hardware and electronic stores. http://tinyurl.com/ah9gggLarry

Just ask for dielectric grease. On your trailer or toad light plug, its a good idea to clean your plugs, both male and female, with a spray contact cleaner occasionally and apply some dielectric grease to insure good connection.
