The California State Parks Foundation is reporting that this is the list of State Parks proposed to be closed this year. It's nearly all of them. Basically the only parks left open would be the ones generating enough revenue to pay for themselves.

Bluff or not, it looks like it is getting serious consideration.

It's the politician's way of trying to punish voters.  Maybe, next election, you Californians will punish the politicians of both parties who brought you to this mess.  I had enough of California in 1994 and moved to Idaho where the pols are still fools but do less damage. ;)

I'm not willing to give up access to my state's best campgrounds without a fight.
If you feel the same, check the petition below at the California State Parks Foundation and feel free to contact your local California State representative. Now is the time to act.

If paying a little more each night is necessary, so be it. YMMV

The really silly part is that, according to an article in the paper, for every $1 from the state budgets to the parks, they receive about $3.50 in tax revenues from support businesses. If these recreation-oriented businesses shut down, related state revenues will plummet. Tourism is a major player in California's economy. I think our state government's policies are on a fast-track to bankruptcy.
There are many hard-working, dedicated civil workers, but overall efficiency is still extremely poor in the government sector - everywhere. Politicos talk the talk, but nothing ever changes. Now, in the name of credit reform, we can all load our weapons headed into our national parks. Safeties off, folks!

I noticed that Huntington Beach SP (which has hook-ups) is not on the closure list and, consequently, must be self-supporting.  Makes me wonder if more of the State Park campgrounds had hook-ups if they, too, would be paying for themselves.
