Some Storage Compartment Keys are more universal than we might have
Yahoo Message Number: 102661
I recently read about RV storage compartment keys being more universal than one would have ever known. It seems as though that hundreds of thousands of RV's have been mfr'd using a common lock and key system known in the industry as the "CH751 System".
This was originally intended as a convenient way for the RV dealers to manage their inventory. But, some Criminals have supposedly discovered this. If your unit uses this key system, your rig is at risk...
I'm going to call the LD Factory and see if they have used this key System for their storage compartments and if so, during what years...

You can read more about it at...

And act accordingly as each sees fit.

Never had an RV that *didn't* use the CH751 key.

Our LD used the CH751 key.  It's easy to tell whether or not yours does...just look for those numbers on your key.

The type of lock doesn't matter much, since the doors are easily pried open.  The weak link in the system isn't the lock per se but the construction of the locking mechanism and of the compartment doors.

I have yet to find a Lazy Daze whose compartment I couldn't open with my key. But as Joanne points out, it really doesn't matter, because any of these doors can be pried open in about two seconds flat with a large screwdriver. The lock offers very little protection.
My advice: don't waste your money changing locks, because it won't keep out a thief for more than the aforementioned two seconds. The good news is that I have yet to hear of anybody having anything stolen from their outer compartments. But needless to say, don't store your Hasselblad in one.

In short, it's a tempest in a teapot. Don't worry about it.
