Limp In Mode May 19, 2009, 09:51:06 am Yahoo Message Number: 102449For all you thrifty folks that change their own air filter, this is my story. I changed mine in Phoenix for the trip home to Tacoma, WA. Approaching Yreka, CA, my 2006 LD went into "limp in mode," loss of power, wouldn't shift up, etc. Being April Fools Day I decided to stop at Yreka Ford where I was told my warranty just ran out. Well the good folks at Ford charge $90 per hour so I thought I was in for it. Turns out the air filter canister has a "Mass Air Sensor," that pretty much controls the computer that controls the "fly by wire," throttle controls. I didn't have the two parts of the air cleaner securely fitted together and after 1000 miles we had sucked in a bug that fried between the two probes of the mass air sensor! A shot of brake cleaner, and a test drive and we were on our way over the pass towards home. Yreka Ford worked on us for two hours, but only changed us $90 bucks. They also have full hook-ups in case you have to spend the night. Just thought I'd pass this along if you ever find yourself in "Limp In Mode." (It's in the manual) The dreaded wrench light and check engine light will illuminate.Best of luck, Jim Pappas Tacoma, WA

The air filter has enough flow resistance that without a secure seal, MOST of your intake air was bypassing the filter. Say a prayer of thanks to that bug that saved the resulting accelerated wear from thousands of unfiltered miles before engine failure resulted.Steve

Many of us with the Bank's system installed are using K & N oiled gauze filters with no problems. For all, it's nice to have the ScanGauge II along with a print-out of the trouble codes. This can take the guesswork out of troubleshooting problems - - besides being a really nice trip computer that is "in-tune" with all the goings on within your power train.bumper
