N. Oregon coast campground?

Can anyone recommend a good overnite spot somewhere around the Lincoln City area? I'm looking for a nice rv park/campground to spend one night/day along the coast, but some of these rv places look like parking lots.

Thanks Francine

Francine: Is Pacific Shores still listed in any guide you  have? We enjoyed a stay there a few years ago. If I'm recalling correctly, it's  close to Lincoln City because the morning we left we stopped at the outlet mall  in Lincoln City.
I'd be interested in any others in that area too  because I believe we will be taking Rosie up that way this summer.

Have you researched the Oregon State Parks?  Devils Lake SP is near Lincoln City. http://www.oregon.gov/OPRD/PARKS/camping.shtml

Oregon has some great state parks along the coast.

Happy Travels!

-- I second Marti's suggestion of Devil's Lake SP; it's in Lincoln City (literally), so the location should work for you.

You didn't say when you planned to be there, but you might want to make reservations at Devil's Lake if you don't want to take a chance or if you don't find an alternative; Oregon state parks are *very* popular!

When we lived in Eugene, South Beach State Park in Newport was always our favorite.  If you like to walk the beach, South Beach can't be beat.  The restrooms have showers which is a nice feature too.  Newport is just a few minutes from Lincoln City.

Thanks everyone! South Beach sounds wonderful but it's south of our route. I'll keep your recommendation for next time! Looks like Devil's state park is it....appreciate your help very much.

We like Sea&Sand at Depoe Bay, a few miles south of Lincoln.
Mayne call in advance 541.764.2313 to ask for a "terrace" site.  Sort of expensive at $30 or so, but fine private beach access.  Cash only when we were there.
A bit further south is Sea Perch at Yachats, similar price also nice private beach.

Hi, Francine,

The entire OR coast has a number of great camping spots.  We wandered up the entire coastline last year and found some neat places.  If you take a look at our  http://www.wxtoad.com/>  web site you can find some pix and notes on all the CG's we visited,  Just look under "Camping Info" in the menu on the left.  Don't forget to check out the world's smallest harbor at Depoe Bay and the world's shortest river, the D River.  Newport is a great place to wander around, with lots of seals/sea lions lounging around.
Liighthouses abound.

Have a great trip.

Thanks John and Ted. Sea and Sand looks beautiful and I'll keep it flagged, (as does Yaquina Bay) but i think we want to get up the coast a little farther on the first day.
Ted, funny you should mention your website I had already gone there after finding it in a OR coast message search  on this board. I flagged Cape Lookout and Fort Stevens after reading your journal
Have either of your crossed the Astoria Bridge? This is my first time out (I'm picking up my "new" 1985 22 multiplan in Eugene) and I'm trying not to get myself into any really hairy situations on the maiden voyage! thx again francine

Francine,

We've crossed the Astoria, OR bridge several times in our '87 LD and in fact, we are going over it this coming Sunday heading to Ft Stevens SP. No problem, take it slow and easy. You can do it!
If any LDers will be on the Oregon coast this week, we will be at Ft Stevens Sunday night and Nehalem Bay SP Monday night on our way to the Northwest GTG at Champoeg SP near Newburg, OR. Hope to see some of you out and about!

Any advice on roads/campgrounds between the astoria bridge and Shelton?
I live past Quilcene and it's a bit of a hike in one day from there.
I could swing back to I-5 from Astoria, but as you know, the Hood Canal Bridge is closed, so I'd need to end up back on 101 headed north.

Great to have this site - thanks for your help! Francine

Travel on the Oregon coast takes a lot longer than you would think it should.
It has many beautiful spots but much of the drive consists of weaving through small towns with narrow streets and few 55 MPH zones between towns.
Don't try to rush it!

Thanks for the advice, Larry.
I think the longest day (on the coast) is from Lincoln City to Astoria 100 miles, but if it gets too late I can stop somewhere in between..
On another note, do you think this is too ambitious a route  (narrow streets, windy roads, etc.) for a first time MH driver?
I'm picking up the 1985 22LD in Eugene and was just going to come back I-5 but my brother wanted to make a trip of it.

thx Francine

We have crossed the Astoria bridge many times in our 2002 MB, which is wider that your 1985.  It is not a white knuckle drive (unless the wind is blowing hard), but you need to be alert.  It is like driving 55 MPH on a country road.  It is straight and flat, except for the hump on the Astoria end.  If you're not comfortable driving 55, just slow down to a comfortable speed.  If you turn right on the Washington side, there is a rest area a short distance from the bridge.  If you have cars backed up behind you, it's a great place to pull over and let them pass.  Actually, it's a great place to pull over anyway.
There are some signs to read with historical info.  Happy travels!

Thanks for the confidence boost Larry, Al and Marti!
I did not know my coach was narrower. I thought they were all 8'2" wide.
