Jim and Donna,

Wow, I remember the day so well, I feel your excitement all the way here in New Mexico!  Ask any questions you need to, this is a helpful group.
And let us know how your first trip goes, I'm sure everybody here is excited for you.

Congratulations! You'll have a blast no matter where you stay. We rely upon Woodall's which we have both paperbound and on CD, Trailer Life to a much lesser degree---we have the CD only, and Passport America...which paid for itself in our maiden voyage. Most often we use rvparkreviews.com.
I will still cross-reference if coming up blank on rvparkreviews.  If you haven't RV'd before (and we were total, completely green newbies 2 years ago), you'll begin to work out your own balance of the kinds of places you like to stay in with respect to overall size of campground--amenties--near what--price--how much nature--etc.
If you've been reading this board for a while you've noticed that several folks really love the state campgrounds in various states, some folks love BLM and COEs, some of us take advantage of being retired military using those military-restricted campgrounds, and others of us skew more to full-on resorts...DH and I are RV weenies and mostly do the resorts, but have had some very splendid times in many of the above.
But nevermind the campgrounds...the important question is what are you going to name your new LD?

" A blog I read is "Our Odyssey."  The authors have an excellent and comprehensive discussion of campground guides here:

Keep scrolling down to read it all..."

This is a very interesting blogspot, especially the video clips of the owners' customized German Neoplan bus.

There are two major RV park/campground guides: Trailer Life Directory and Woodall's although there are many smaller directories that are more focused.
While we like the Trailer Life Directory the best because we like the layout and their ratings system, we like the fact that Woodall's has smaller, regional, directories.  For example they have a Western Directory which we like since most of our travels are in the Western half of the U.S.
We belong to Passport America (a 50%-off club) and it has its own directory.
Since we do a lot of boondocking, we also have Don Wright's Guide to Free Campgrounds, Western Edition (he also publishes an Eastern Edition), a guide for COE campgrounds and the Day's End Directory (available only to Escapees).  There are also a couple of websites where we can get information on free or inexpensive campgrounds.  And, since we belong to the Elks, we have their Travel Guides that gives us the list of lodges with RV parking.
There's also Wheelers Campground Guide, available online or by CD (they used to publish a paper guide, but don't any longer).
As you can see, there are numerous guides.  I'd start out with either the Trailer Life or Woodall's directories and then go from there, picking up other guides depending on what type of camping you like to do.

For real ratings of campgrounds, we always use www.rvparkreviews.com These are reviews by real RVers and you'll learn a whole lot more (the good, bad, and ugly) about a campground from this site than any of the directories.
The printed guides, like Woodall's and Trailer Life, seem to be very biased by the amount of advertising dollars spent by the rated campgrounds (Woodall's especially).  Those guides, however, are good for checking campground capability (site size, hookups, etc.)
We also are Passport America members and their website and directory are very useful for the overnight stays.
