new buyer q's on floor plans
Yahoo Message Number: 97132
I am a potential new buyer of an LD. My length is limited to either the 23 or the 26'.  I've been reading many of the posts on floor plans.
My main use of the RV will be for dog trials (agility & herding) where I will have mostly dirty dogs, as it rains a lot here in the northwest. I have been inside a RB 26' and an Island Q 30' (too big).
I am torn between the advantages of a bigger bath area in the RB with more rear vision, and the separate bedroom of the TK MB models. I'm in my 60's and I don't know how convenient using the over the cab bed will be (not my preference since getting up in the middle of the night is important ;-)
Does anyone on this list who travels with dogs have suggestions/input on what floor plan I should be thinking about.  I have 2 Corgis and 1 Border Collie.  The husband comes infrequently, but my plan is to be able to travel comfortably with 3 dogs and a husband who needs some computer work space when we're camped.  It seemed to me that the mid bedroom plans (ie, fold out couches) might be a bit of a pain setting up every night. But the idea of a bigger floor space in the bathroom appeals in the RBs.  We are both tall (6') and need the leg room.
I would really appreciate any info, modifications, solutions you have, especially those with dogs.
Thanks for your help.  I'm eagerly looking forward to getting my new LD, just can't make up my mind.  By the way, the reason I can't get the 30' is garage space limitations.

Thanks, Adele U.

Hi Adele, My wife and I are both tall like you and your husband.  Although we dont travel with multiple dogs we do have a boston terrier that goes with us.  We have a 26 MB and really like the rear configured as a large bed.  There is plenty of room for both of us and the dog, who occasionally sneaks up there. We find the bathroom to be a little tight but totally doable.  As for the overhead bunk it just is not as comfortable as the one

Hi,
I'm picking up an older 26.5 MB next weekend, my understanding is the floor plans are very similar to the new models.  You're welcome to come look at mine if you're close to Seattle and it's convenient for you.  I'm
1992 MB

Well Adele, I'll just have to jump in here.  When my husband and I were dog showing (OB, agility, herding, conf.) we went through quite a few RVs.  The best floorplan was in our 5th wheel.  In that we took out the dinette table and put a large wire crate there on the floor.  We then put 3 others across and had room for a couple Varis on top for a total of 6 crates.  We have Cardis and ACDs.  Then  it looked like I would be RVing  alone (someone had to stay home with my 92 year old mother) so  we got the new LD last Dec.  I got the RB because the floorplan was just like our 5th wheel.  I got it basically for the dogs.  Right now I am leaving most of the dogs home and am just traveling with an ACD and a Papillon.  I have the dinette layed down as in a bed with a 300 and a 200 crate on top with enough room for the 3 ft. x-pens layed down beside them. You will easily  have room for 3 crates.  The floor plan is so open that it gives the dogs room to move around.  I can even throw toys down to the bathroom for them.  I did not get both couches as that takes up too much room inside.  I got the two chairs and took one out (made a desk and more storage).  There is plenty of room under the dinette seats to put dog food, blankets, towels, ect. but you need to have the factory put in doors to open on the bottom ends of the dinette seats ($85).  I tried using the couch to sleep but am now sleeping on the bunk.
Either way it is easy and I'm also in my 60s. The only problem could be in the passenger seat for leg room .   Hope that helps.
