LD RV from Washington - Mileage discrepency

Thank you Andy Baird for giving me the opportunity to clear up this matter regarding the 2002 LD from Puyallup WA.
I am not the original owner of this LD, I purchased it on August 24, 2007 from WestHills Honda in Bremerton WA.  Mileage registered at 39,110.  I bought the RV for personal use to take the grandkids camping and fishing but soon realized the RV was not large enough to haul all the grandkids and their friends.  We decided to consign the LD to a friend of mine that owns a car lot in Puyallup WA. They advertised the RV in Craigslist and recieved a lot of calls wondering why we were selling it so cheap.  John Wozniak came to look at the rig and left without purchasing.  Sony Chung then bought the RV and while searching online found John Wozniaks post here on the LD site.  Sony notified the car dealer about John's post regarding the odometer mileage and a lube sticker he found on the door that didn't match and backed out of the deal (don't blame her for that, I would have done the same!!).  Matter of fact I called the Honda dealer and explained the whole thing to them and they said they would take care of problem.  They said they had a signed Federal Odometer Mileage Statement by the original owner who had traded it in prior to my purchasing it.

After 2 months of trying to track down the original owner, Chuck Januska, whom was on an extended vacation I was able to explain to him the issue at hand.  Chuck was very accomodating and invited my wife and I into his home to try and clear matter.  He had two boxes of reciepts, insurance papers, credit card statements and misc. documents and said, "Okay, let's get busy!", we went through the boxes and found credit card statements where he had paid a bill on 6/30/03 to Scarff Ford in Auburn, WA. in the amount of $66.15.  More importantly, another reciept was found dated 7/30/04 in the amount of $159.01 (please remember this date, as it is an important one). This was the date that the lube sticker in question was placed in the door jam of the LD.

I went to Scarff Ford and spoke with Chris Ericksen, Heavy duty service manager, and explained to him the situation.  He appologized for their mistake in putting the wrong sticker on the LD and sent me to the office to talk to their office manager.  I explained to her what had happend and she said they would get into the archives and find the original repair orders.  They called me the next day and told me to pick them up from Pam.  So I did, and here they are!

Below you will find the repair order in question, dated 7/30/04 which showed the mileage at 18,288. On the same date, the door sticker shows 64,702.  Chris said that sticker belonged on someone elses truck and someone else had mine!  You will also see the Scheduled Maintenance Guide, more receipts, other repair orders, Car Fax and Auto Check records.

Thank you for your time and patience on this matter.  Now let's get this babydoll sold so I can get onto buying a bigger one for these grandkids of mine!!

Sincerly, Dick Milner (253) 350-2828
*Also, I have taken the RV to Rich Built RV and Marine in Auburn WA. to address the matter of the air conditioning roof problem and for a thorough check over, as was suggested by another member.

Reminds me of a local attorney here in town who always tell the jury:   "Like my grandmom used to say, every pancake has two sides and you have to be careful to flip the pancake and look at the other side."

Thanks for the thorough explanation.

f'cryin out loud!  Chuck Januska, of Peety the Snake fame, is a stand up guy.  His RB was one of the first RB's I had seen in actual use when we ran into each other in the Chimicum Escapees park while I was waiting for my LD to hatch.  It even had my fabric choices.

Dick, what a fantastic job you did to clear up this snafu!  Looks like Chuck (sold his rig) and is settling down -- a real shame.
Chuck entertained so many of us at WIN gatherings and at the 50th Anniversary Talent Show with his side-splitting poetry recitations -- Peety the Sanke, Cinderella, among many others.  I *know* he took fastidious care of his rig, and he will be missed by many many Lazy Dazers.
Kudos also to Scarff Ford for stepping up to the plate.  When I am in the Pac. NW for family visits, no one touches my rig until it's been written up by Chris Ericksen -- another stand up guy.

Gosh, this is a two hankie ending.  Kudos to you Dick for going the extra ten miles!!

Goes to show you that we should never assume anything or jump to conclusions without doing some checking.  Just think...all this would have been avoided, or at least cleared up sooner, if someone had bothered to question Dick about the apparent discrepancies in the mileage instead of just making the assumption that the odometer had been tampered with.

Thanks for taking the time to clear up the matter, Dick.

Hi Linda  Looks like you and Earl are having a ball. You are right, we should never "ass u me" anything, but we all have, we all do and we all will again, unfortunatly. I know one thing for sure,I will be a lot more carful about putting my mouth in gear before my brain is fully engaged. Have a great time.  Thanks, Dick

Jody,  John W said there is a problem with a possible leak in the roof in front of the air cond. I had a repairman look at it, he said nothing is wet and it dosn't appear to be leaking, but then it never rains in Seattle, sooooo... They are going to remove the air cond. unit on fri.and see if they can find anything going on, if so, it will be repaired. they are going to check the L D out and advise if any thing else needs attention. If you know something else, please advise me and it will be taken care of.  thanks   Dick
