Fridge questions - from Eureka! CD

Hey Andy (and others), I'm reading the fridge part of Eureka! and have a few questions:

1.  I'm going to get that Solar Fridge Exhaust Fan.  Do you think  that is something I can hook up myself?
2.  I love your blue ice idea.  I don't know why I didn't think of
that (head slap).  I've used ice bags before and what a mess!  My question:  How many of these do you think I should get for the freezer.  My first reaction is to buy as many will fill up the freezer, but I thought I'd ask.  Is any size better than another- 4 big ones, 20 little ones?
My fridge needs all the help it can get.  At times I think it is just not working and other times it does fine.  Then I get complete freeze up on the freezer and very little cooling in the fridge.  I'm not yet willing to spend $1200 on a new one, so all suggestions are helpful.

Here's the Eureka CD site:

Tessa, this is 2nd-hand info, but I've heard from other RVers that the solar fan doesn't help much with refer overheating.  Perhaps others will chime in with more solid info.

Check out message 79127 and follow the link therein and see if you have a thermister (refer temp sensor) or your fridge that could be adjusted.

I installed a battery powered computer fan in our 1983 LD with an on-off switch to help with the cooling.
After several months of testing, I removed the fan since it provided no noticeable improvement. The refrigerator's natural convection provided all the air flow it needed.
Make sure the coils, top screen and the gas jet are clean. I use compressed air to blow out the coils and screen.
If you can get the the jet out, soak it in alcohol or lacquer thinner and blow it out with air. Do not use a metal wire to poke the jet as it may damage the hole, use an old toothbrush if needed.

Thanks for the tips, Larry.

Umm, okay.  Would directions for this be in my RV repair book by Bob Livingston?  I will check on all that.  Now where is my book...

Sure! But after Larry's test, I'm not sure it will make a big difference. I'd put it fairly low on my priority list.

"I love your blue ice idea. How many of these do you think I should get for the freezer."
I keep three or four one-pound ice packs in the freezer, and transfer them to the fridge section when it need help.
