E 450 Power Steering Failure
Yahoo Message Number: 66140
A friend of mine just alerted me to a failure of his power steering hose on his 2003 Born Free.  The failure was caused from fluid loss as the result of a wear point on the hose.  From under the hood I was able to determine that there are three potential trouble spots to the hose located on the bottom left side of the power steering reservoir.

1. Fan shroud. This does not appear to be a trouble spot as it is a  smooth surface.
2. Fuel line.  Not a problem with mine since it is rubbing the  plastic hose clamp.
3. Brake fluid line. There is a sign of wear although the hose is
not presently touching the brake fluid line.  I plan to tape this area.

The mechanic who performed the repair said that Ford's hose routing design could be improved. He also mentioned another trouble spot: Radiator hose that is routed very close to the lower belt drive pulley.
