Link 10 hookup

To anyone who has a mid-bath and installed a link 10 monitor.  How was the wire run from behind the microwave to the battery box area ?  Is it thru the fan area, behind the middle shelf and where down the reffer area ? What's cleanest ?

Thanks

I chickened out and mounded my Link 10 "temporarily" in a metal box I hung on the rail along the cabover bed.  The wires run from it to the floor and under the cabinet door (the one under the refrig) and hence to the battery box.  I wanted to make sure it was more than one of my toys before actually drilling a 2" hole in a cabinet.  It's a keeper, but now its mounting is not urgent so it's still installed "temporarily".
Norm Pawson, knew from previous experience that a battery monitor is a good thing.  He did a first class job in his mid-bath buy running the multiwire cable down through the inside of the black tank vent pipe.
He drilled a hole in it inside the upper cabinet and another hole under the sink.  After he somehow got the wire run in one hole and out the other (?) and the lengths adjusted, etc, he plugged the holes back up appropriate sealant around the wire.

When I installed a Link-10 in our 2002 MB, I also installed the gauge above the microwave.  I already had installed external tank sensors with that panel also above the microwave.  For the tank sensors, I had run the wires up along the back side of the tank vent pipe that is behind the kitchen sink.  I REALLY wanted to fish the wires along the wiring bundle that goes into the outer wall to the left of the microwave and comes back down behind the water pump, but I could never get a snake through there! I drilled two small holes, one in the countertop and one in the bottom of the overhead cabinet.  The wires were zip-tied to the back of the vent pipe and out of view.  When I installed the Link-10, I just added more wires along this path.  From the area by the water pump, the wires run by the water tank, and under the fridge.  I drilled a small hole in the battery box to run the wires through, then sealed the wires and hole with lots of sealant.

Hope this helps, Art PS - I really like the information the Link-10 gives.

Thanks to both Linley and Art for your suggestions.
I had been thinking of going under the shelf to the right and the reefer vent but I think your ways might be easier and I have plenty of cable.  Will let you know how I make out in Cheyenne.

Thanks again

The link 10 is a device useful to people using solar panels and boon docking.
It gives an indication of battery power used and the rate used.  In other words it is like a gas guage for the battery,  it helps determine when charge to the battery by starting  the rig and moving on, starting the gen set for an hour or two, or turning off the TV and lights and praying for a sunny day.

Art's archive can give you a lot more tech info.

Hope this helps

An easy way to find out about almost anything is Google. In this case, typing 'link 10 monitor' into a Google search box will get you lots of information about this useful device.
Incidentally, I understand that the XBM (Xantrex Battery Monitor) has replaced the Link-10 in Xantrex's product line. The major difference seems to be that the XBM has a square control panel rather than a round one. I actually have an XBM, but have not yet finished installing it.

Don,

On "Yonder", '05 MB, I mounted the Link-10 above the microwave and routed the wires through the shelf in the cupboard above the range hood. Remove the shelf, then drill holes from cupboard into microwave side and also through to behind refrig. I also routed the heavy solar panel wires and remote for the Prosine 2000 through this shelf.

Again,  to all who had suggestions, thanks for the ideas.
Since the introduction of the new square replacment for the Link 10, West Marine has lowered the price of the Link 10.  What was in the $250 price range has been lowered to $189 in the 2006 catalog, be sure to mention the catalog price as ours came up as 217 in the store.
Happy hookup watt ever you decide.

Don,

I just looked at West Marines site and could not find the Link 10 anywhere.  Could you perhaps supply a link or a phone number and part number for phone ordering?
Kate

You are so right about not finding it online!  I would try their online store locator and call a local store or 1-800-685-4838.

If you call or go to the store you will want to mention the Master Catalog 2006 page 511, model 255200 xantr#84-2016-01 . price $ 189.99.

Good luck !  It's a whale of deal.
