Anyone use this RV club or it's services? I notice mail forwarding, a pharmacy program, forums, free e-mail, and a bi-monthly magazine, etc.
http://www.escapees.com/Wannabes/Home.asp Your experiences pro or con, wil be appreciated.

Jim, we've been Escapees (or SKPs) for about 10 years now.  If we could only belong to one club, this one would be it.
As you have discovered, they have great support services for the fulltime RVer.  But even if you're not a fulltime RVer, it's a wonderful resource.
And the people are great...more like family than a club.  Their discussion forum is the best one the web, bar none, IMO.
When we started out fulltiming, we used the Escapees mail forwarding service to become Texans.  The only reason we changed to South Dakota was because of the taxes -- taxes when registering a new RV in SD is only 3% whereas it's
6-1/4% in Texas.  Over the years, that's saved us a bunch of money.

The Escapees has something else, too -- something I've never seen any other RVing club have -- and that's CARE, a place where RVers can go to get care, but still live in their RVs.  Go to www.escapeescare.org for more information on this great benefit.
Plus, there are lots of Birds of A Feather (BOF) groups within Escapees.
These are groups of like-mined people...computers, boomers, boondockers, etc.

I agree with everything Linda said.  We have been Escapees since a year before we even got our RV.  They are a wonderful group of people and the 'sharing and caring' can not be duplicated.
We still use the mail forwarding but haven't changed our domicile from California so we have CA drivers licenses with a TX address!  Mimi is currently on the Advisory Council for the Escapees and the more we know about the workings of the club, the more impressed we are.  A good introduction to the Escapees would be to attend the Spring Escapade in Chico, CA from 4/23 to 4/28.  Lots of seminars, good fun, vendors and you can park with the Lazy Daze BOF.

Thanks Linda & Jonna, We are down-sizing from our 1700sq. ft. house to our rental, 630sq. ft.
The process is not going to be easy! It's amazing the amount of "stuff," two people can accumulate over the years. Right now we are leveling the rental site & preparing for a concrete pad & cover for the LD and cars. After all work is done, we will have what is referred to as a Casita, in the Northwest.
From that point on, we will stay here in the good months, (July- September) then be on the road the rest of the time.
It's good to know we can rely on the services provided by the Escapees RV club. Thanks for the endorsements.
No longer sitting on the fence! Best, Jim & Alane Pappas Tacoma, WA

I'm with Lynda, cannot recommend highly enough. Great group, you will be warmly welcomed at all their parks and the Escapades are a blast.
My family thought I was consorting with convicts before I explained.
Soncee, on beautiful Whidbey Island.  P.S. Many ld'ers are skips.

Hi Jim,

We have been SKPs since '89.  Like the others we are strong supporters.  We used their mail service for almost ten years.  We got or mail 3 - 4 times a month and had only two problems in the ten years -- both were ours not theirs  You have to tell them where to send the mail not just think about it !

The Escapees organization actively supports the RV lifestyle politically.  There have been attempts to force RVers to conform to the lifestyle of stick home dwellers.  Escapee members and the leaders jumped on that big time.

Check out the "articles" on their web site.  There is a wealth of information there.  Many of the technical articles were written by Phred Tinseth a long time Rver with a very no nonsense attitude.

Chris - I joined the Escapees about a year before I owned an RV, just to get the magazine. That was back when my learning curve was headed into outer space, and I NEEDED INFORMATION. I still enjoy the magazine.

Now, Pete and I are Lifetime Members (mainly because we hate taking time to pay bills). I've used the mail forwarding service ever since I started full-timing, about 5 years ago. Very satisfied with that.
They will even pitch the junk mail, or go through your mail if you ask them if a particular piece of mail has arrived yet. Sometimes that will determine when you want your mail sent. I've never had a mail problem that was the fault of the SKP mail forwarding service.

I've also attended the Escapades for the fun, entertainment, commaradery, and education. Less for education now, more just for the fun of it.

We tend to use products and services that have been endorsed by the SKPs. We use their parks when we travel, and even have a lot on one of them (So. Calif) and our name's on the list for one on the Olympic Penninsula (Washington).

I'm going to be meeting with a lawyer, recommended by the SKPs, at the Escapade for will/estate plannning. She's from Texas, and that's the state we use as our home state.
We have enjoyed nearly a month long trip with the SKP Chapter 8, AKA Mexican Connection. We also make a monthly donation to the CARE program - one of it's kind in the USA.

Well - those are a few things I've used - and have enjoyed and appreciated all of them.

YMMV, but probably not by much.  Sarah http://map.datastormusers.com/user1.cfm?user=2668

Jim and Alane - congratulations on making such a major decision. It's sure a big job, getting rid of all the stuff, but I felt like a huge load had been lifted off my back once it was done. What a simpler, less stressful life. It's not for everybody, but for some of us - it's just the way to go.

I remember celebrating the 'no more huge piles of junk mail' everyday. I used to get so much junk it was unreal. No more. Over time, I've changed most bills to auto pay, and ask the companies to not send hard copies of bills. So most just send an email notification that it's on the web site, and that it has been paid.
You'll enjoy the SKP mail service.

We'll see you on the road - Sarah and Pete

"We'll see you on the road - Sarah and Pete." Let's see, we have to get the fence up around the rental. (two terriers) Everything under the house had to be replaced, plumbing, support beams, hot water tank & forced air heating unit. Painted inside & out, new vinyl flooring & carpet, new doggie door, alarm system, lighting, new kitchen, new appliances, ect. Getting ready to pour the RV pad & cover. Run electrical service to pad.(20X30) Landscaping on this 120X50 lot will mostly be beauty bark. (wish we could have sand & cactus) Then all we have to do is have garage sales, move to new house, sell old house . . . . sound familiar? After all this, freedom sounds real good! Best, Jim & Alane

Jim and Alane,
Sounds familiar to us. We finally made the final move from our 10 acres, big house, big shop building, etc near Lake Stevens to our doublewide mobile home in Birch Bay Village.  Took us over 2 years, but now that it's done it sure feels good.  While we intend to spend a few more of the "good months" here in the Pacific Northwest than your plans, we will still be on the road for around 6 months each year.

Yes, I vaguely remember you folks, and hi again.
I must say that we weren't expecting the crowds of people that came over to meet us and see the rig. (we were hammered from the trip down, the orientation, getting fueled up, and actually escaping LA!) My friend Bob and I did pretty good after spending 9 days in the LD on the way home. (we're still friends!) The wife is overloading the rig now for our second trip out. (she won't eat hot-pockets, and needs her cast iron skillets) The first trip was to Copalis Beach at the Tidelands Resort.
www.tidelandsresort.com Don't be fooled by the web page like I was, the place is a dump. (no heat in the bathrooms or shower room, the coin operated shower dribbled out water, and being at the Washington coast the weather was rain, blowing sideways for 4 days!) We lost our cat the second night there, but did manage to get the two dogs home with us. (Posters & ads in the local beach newspapers, flyers with $100 reward, ect.) It's been almost 2 weeks, still no word. (Some things may not be ment to be.) Anyway, I'm rambling here. If you see us again please re-introduce yourselves and say Hi. (a mind is a terrible thing to waste!) Hope to see you on the road soon.
Best, Jim & Alane
