Hey!

Count me in!  Jane, I won't be living in Arizona (Sun Lakes) until July, but I would be willing to do whatever it takes to get this idea off the ground.  There must be some organizational lists or some such thing I can do from Indiana until then and I'll get started on that if you want.  I'm committed to this as well, so just contact me on or offline and lets make it happen!

Several weeks ago, Pete and I were heading toward Patagonia, AZ, and mentioned it on the group. Kate joined up - Bill Haas, who lives in the area, picked a spot for us, Lorna came along, Al and Anna K were there - Tom and his wife from Nevada - several other LDers - I think that over the course of a couple of weeks, there were probably 14 rigs there at one time or another.
It sounds to me like the Southwest group already exists -- all that's needed is for somebody to make a list of  those 14 rigs' owners!
 If you're thinking about geographic definitions for a new group, then you're still in much too formal of a mindset.  Knowing the pain that exclusivity can inflict, why impose it on others?  The Northeast group has  members from as far as Ohio and Maryland, which aren't in most people's definitions of "Northeast".
 GTG's often include drop-in owners based in other regions; we're mobile by definition. It's not surprising that members of the Northeast group were at the recent Southeast GTG in FL, nor that a FL owner showed up at the last Northeast GTG in Vermont last September. Come one, come all!

 I don't think ANY of the regional Lazy Daze clubs exclude members because they don't live within the requisite states.  Like I mentioned earlier, we are South Dakota residents, but we belong to the Northwest Lazy Daze club.
And, if a Southwestern club was started, we'd join that, too.

When I asked what areas a SWLD club should cover I was referring to "Where" should get togethers be located not who should be invited to attend.  I wasn't very clear in making that point. I firmly believe anyone interested in joining together for fun should be welcomed.  After talking with John, C2NME, who has helped with FMCA events I also now realize that if you have a Southwest LD "Caravan" Club it means go anywhere (not just the SW area) and all welcome.

It does look like a SW group has formed and had their first outing in southern AZ.  Wish we had our LD so we could trot over to Albuquerque for brunch with Sarah.  Ah, soon. I am willing to collect some info to help expand this SW group. John is willing to help with setting up a site for communication. We're thinking it might be fun for any of us who are going to the GC to get together there for a chat and then have an outing this fall. Looks like there are many of you who might be interested in a SW group.

I thought there might be three bits of info to collect:

1) Who is interested and how do you want to be contacted?
2) What time of year are you interested in outings?
3) Any recommendations for places to get together?

There's another unofficial SW LD gathering, the Albuquerque balloon festival.  There are at least a dozen LD's that have been attending that together for the last 3 years and most of us intend to get there this year.
It's Oct 6 - 15th in 2006, I just happen to have that bumper sticker on my frig!   Marial organizes it and a fine job she does of it too!  No rules, no seminars, no organized activities, no silly hats but potlucks most nights and camaraderie all the time.   We have a great time, even when it rains and we are parked in a lake.  There is nothing like sitting on the roof of your LD chatting with the balloon pilots as they come by 10' above you.
Hopefully Mike Sylvester will be in the area again this year and you can get stuff fixed or installed while there, with the added bonus of a bunch of other LDers watching and kibbitzing (sp?).

Hello SW people.
When getting the SE group going, Ron Von Soosten () of Anaheim, CA was of immense help. For a fee of only $.50 per person to cover postage & supplies, he went to the LD office and accessed a list of all buyers in the SE states, over the last three years, and sent them a letter I had drafted.  The letter was simply telling people what was going on and directing them to contact me for additional information. This mailing proved to be my biggest source of leads. Frequent posts on this Yahoo Group was the other major source because the mailing only covered new buyers, nor second owners. As pointed out in previous posts, the SE Club is a come-one, come-all group.
I can't put my finger on the GC packet right now, but I recall Ron was leading a seminar of setting up new groups.
Touch base with Ron. You just need someone to draft the "welcome" letter and front the $$$. I just know Ron will be delighted to help.
I'm already jealous of the SW group. Fourteen rigs already.  Not fair.

 Linda, I think you might have just inadvertently summarized the basic philosophy of this group.

Elegant in its simplicity,

"Anyplace Free Or Cheap"

is worthy to become a motto, a mantra, or a rallying battle cry, proclaiming the owner's priorities in no uncertain terms. What fine establishment would dare refuse service to anyone displaying such principles?
 And even better, with an appropriate accompanying logo, it would make a fine emblem for any vehicle or T-shirt. I move that the phrase be officially adopted by the soon-to-be Southwest Caravan Club, with due recognition of yourself as the author.

And if you ever have them made up, you can put me down for a set of the T-shirts. Of course, they will have to be free, or at least cheap.

 Count Pete and me in - - we love the SW and spend most of the winter somewhere in the SW - - wandering around all over the place.

. . . 2) What time of year are you interested in outings? fall, winter, spring, for the most part in the SW. Altho, you could have them anytime.

 Sounds like it's coming together.  I will keep watching progress, and when we visit my brother in Sierra Vista, maybe we will be able to participate in a get together with the new Club.

I think at least one annual rally has to be in Rocky Point!  Giant shrimp on the barby!
 We are gone to Mexico from November through April but would love to join during the other months.  While we are fulltimers, we have a home base of sorts in Cathedral City, CA and spend a lot of time in Arizona as well.
Spring and Fall we are generally in the SW somewhere and would love to join in.

With very little fanfare (or advance notice) this is just to let everyone here know that we (Kate and Terry) will be visiting Rockhound State Park in New Mexico for a week or two starting sometime next week (probably April 4 or so).  Andy and Getie will be joining us, and anyone who wishes (first time owners, second time owners, SOB owners, used to be owners, want to be owners, WHOEVER) is invited to stop in and say Howdy and stay if you like
