Preventing coach battery drain during storage- help please!
Yahoo Message Number: 64564
We recently purchased 30ft IB LD with new 6 volt coach batteries installed.
Batteries were fine while we were travelling, however immediately after we returned home, we found the batteries were dead within 3 days.
Everything was shut off.  We have attempted to recharge batteries, but within a few days they are dead again. Tester shows no drain on the 3 12 volt cables when they are disconnected from the battery.

CAn anyone offer advice please.

We would really appreciate it.

Did you buy your LD new or used?  If used, how old are the batteries?  Do your batteries have a cut off switch?  Have you checked the water level?

I'm not clear what your comment about "no drain".  Did you measure the current they draw with the tester (i.e. with the tester in AMPS and the test leads in series with the disconnected battery lead)?
Either the new batteries are already shot (not too likley) or there is something drawing current.  If you did measure the current to be zero then it is something that turns on when you are not there.  This could be an "interesting" one to find.  A shot in the dark: has, by chance, the furnace been left on?  Its so easy to leave it on.
In general, if you are going to leave the coach sitting disconnected from the power line more than a week or two, it is best to completly disconnect the house battery so that the propane detector does not discharge them.

Unless of course you have solar panels to keep them topped off.
I'll add one more suggestion to those already offered: check the date code on the batteries to see how new they really are.
