winterizing problem with a valve

Regarding winterizing
We had a big surprise last January when we got to Texas where we could add water to the holding tank and begin really using our 30 foot island bed LD.
Seems that when we blew out the lines, we neglected to flush the toilet.  So when we used the bathroom for the first time, we had a flood from the small compartment right next to the toilet. Had to quickly turn off the pump.
It was caused by a broken valve, and it is an area that is VERY HARD to reach.   We were lucky that there was a RV dealer close by who replaced the valve.
It is extremely hard to reach, and must have been put in before the toilet was installed.
When you winterize and blow out the lines, be sure to flush the toilet. We always put antifreeze in the holding tanks and drains.

Happy trails.

If you are winterizing by blowing out the water system with compressed air, it is obviously important not to forget to open each and every valve, including the toilet, one-at-a-time to remove as much water as possible from the system.

If using anti-freeze, which will need to replace the water in every location, it is still necessary to open each. In either case, any plain water remaining may freeze, expand, and break the pipe, fitting or fixture.

When blowing out and draining things, it is important to remove the bulk of the water. A few drops remaining here or there will cause no problem. It's only when the water pools or can fill the majority of any given part, and thus have nowhere to expand, that a break can occur if it freezes.

Since blowing out the system is easy to do, with an added blow-out fitting, I've haven't used anti-freeze.
