Elks Lodge Camping August 08, 2005, 08:41:41 pm Yahoo Message Number: 56619Hi folks,No - I still do not have an LD! However I am curious, and perhaps others are as well: can anyone utilize the rv sites at Elks lodges? Or must one be a member of the Elks Club?Roz, the Wannabe

Roz, you must be a member of the Elks to stay at their lodges. You *might* be able to stay if you're traveling with an Elk member...I suppose that would be decided by each individual lodge. It's very easy to become a member, though. Just go down to your local Elks Lodge and tell them you're interested in becoming a member. You'll have them falling all over themselves to sign you up!Linda Hylton2004 Red 23.5' TKFish Lake, Steens Mountain (near Frenchglen, OR) See where we are: http://map.datastormusers.com/user2.cfm?user=1167

I didn't know until recently that so many of the Lodges offered RV sites. This is the official position of the Elks in response to a past email inquiry of mine:"Under the national laws of the BPO Elks and the special "private organization" tax and licensing provisions granted us by local, state and federal agencies, all the property and premises of each Lodge only permit access to Elks, their family and guests. We're sorry but we do not have the authority to waive these restrictions." So, as you said, be an Elk or maybe have an Elk vouch for you and sign you in as a guest. Will

Re: [Life With A Lazy Daze RV] Elks Lodge Camping Reply #4 – August 09, 2005, 08:17:17 pm Yahoo Message Number: 56657Just a note on the Elks . . . As far as we understand, guests are not allowed, one person in the rig must be an actual Elk. Also, in case any Elks don't know, there is a set of 4 "Travel Guides" listing all the Elks clubs in areas (#1 Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Nevada, California and Arizona, #2 Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, North & South Dakota and #3 Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Florida and North & South Carolina, and #4, which covers the rest of the US). The first 3 are produced by the Carmichael, California Lodge and sell either for $11.00 each or $28.00 for all 3. The fourth is out of somewhere back east (we haven't had need of this guide yet). They list all the Lodges in a state, with a note as to whether or not they have RV parking, prices and amenities. We have found it invaluable and I just thought I'd share in case anyone in the Elks organizations hadn't heard of their existence.Kate (13 days . . .)

Re: [Life With A Lazy Daze RV] Elks Lodge Camping Reply #6 – August 10, 2005, 12:07:29 am Yahoo Message Number: 56678http://www.elks.org/ We've been in it awhile, but we seem to remember it was about $200.00 to join, then in our lodge it's about $90 every 6 months or $150. per year. They do a lot of charity/scholarship work so we donʻt mind the money, but we really donʻt participate much, but we use their parking lots/camping facilities a lot!Usually, they have a parking lot and often they have a few hookups, free to a max of $15.00, each is different. As Iʻve said before, their camping area in Oceana is just beautiful. We also like that they are often downtown, like in Ontario (just a few miles from the factory). We will stay there for a few days after pickup to check out all the systems on the rig. In Ontario, itʻs electric and water at the site, with a dump at the lodge, for $10.00 a night. Thereʻs a large mall nearby and a trailer supply within 1.5 miles, pretty convenient!Kate (more excited day by day!)

The annual dues depends on the Lodge. Earl is a member of the Phoenix West Lodge and annual dues there are only $63. The Elks Lodge in Gila Bend, AZ where the Elk-A-Rang is held each year (an Escapees Boomer & Elks BOF get together where new Elks members are inducted) is around the same amount. As I mentioned previously...if you are interested in becoming an Elk, all you have to do is go down to your local lodge and tell them you want to be a member. Barry, I suppose it depends on what you're looking for. The Elks do a lot of philanthropic in their communities and nationwide. Whenever we've stayed at an Elks Lodge, we've been welcomed as long lost friends. Sometimes we're lucky enough to be there on dinner night, and have yet to have a bad meal. We've found the membership to be worthwhile.Linda Hylton2004 Red 23.5' TKFrom Hewitt/Holcomb Park Richland, ORSee where we are: http://map.datastormusers.com/user2.cfm?user=1167
