RV Insurance August 02, 2005, 07:14:50 pm Yahoo Message Number: 56386Now that we have a date, it is time for us to get serious about RV insurance. I've searched the forum and haven't gotten much help, so let me just ask what I need to know. Our home/auto policy is with TripleA, who doesn't have much to offer in the Moho category. So far, with $250 deductables and high coverages ($250,000-$500,000) and full replacement coverage, we've found annual prices of $840 (Good Sam VIP, no roadside included), $717 from Progressive, including Roadside and $1169. from Foremost, including roadside. While I'm tempted to go witrh Progressive from a cost only, I know that that is not always best when shopping insurance. Anyone have any suggestions or wonderful coverage/assistance/helpful stories to share?Are you happy with your coverage? Do they pay quickly and easily?Now that we have a date, there's so much to do!!!!Kate (still impatient, but the wait is limited. . .)

We took a higher deductible (I believe it is $500), and that cut the price considerably. I believe you are in CA.; so are we. Maybe you are looking for a more complex coverage than we were? We drive ours under 5,000 miles a year, which also contributes to the lesser expense.Sonsie

I believe you are in CA.; so are we. ----- Overall rates (from all companies, AFAIK) will be higher if the insured live(s) in large urban areas of many states; the same policy coverage for the same level of "customer risk" will cost more in the Bay Area, L.A., San Diego, and quite a few other metro areas in CA (and any other states) than in less-populated areas. And, raising the deductible *can* be a significant cost-saver; your agent or insurance rep can tell you what the "break point" is, i.e., the deductible amount that is most cost-effective. You might look at "AON", too; this was called "RVAA" in another life.Joan

When I talked to my State Farm agent I learned that the premiums on my Umbrella Policy would quadruple if I took my RV insurance to another carrier. In their warranty, Ford provides comprehensive road service for three years/36K so I don't think you'll need that coverage in any package you're considering right now. You'll get to read all about it when you pick up your Warranty and Service book and new Lazy Daze manual. YIPPEE!I was originally covered by Progressive but after a less-than-satisfactory claims experience before I took delivery of Second Wind, switched to GMAC. Actually, the claims handling was great -- It was the increase in my premium by the precise amount of the pay out that bugged me! Anyway, I have full timer's/full replacement coverage with GMAC and find it quite satisfactory, especially because of the availability of the "full replacement" coverage. This is important insurance if you have a new vehicle. If you have an accident within the first 5 years that totals your rig, it'll buy you a new RV. For example, a policy might say that it covers "towing", but upon reading the fine print -- or needing the service! -- the policy holder finds out that only the first $100.00 of the bill is covered by the policy, and coverage may be a one-time thing. In a case like this, an additional road service policy, eg, CW's RoadCare or one of its clones, might be something to consider.Joan

I do have 3 cars, motorcycle and my home policy is with AAA, but it's not that huge of a discount. AAA has great rates and excellent help if you have an accident. They took care of everything twice for me. If you get AAA card for towing, it's only $25 extra for RV coverage and they cover $200.00 each use. I've heard Good Sam is better and if I was a long distance RV driver, I'd have both. Can never have enough options

We have GMAC and its treated us very well in the two minor times we used it. Actually we had our son call and they came out and towed his car both times.
