!!!WE GOT OUR JEEP!!! John has a pretty good idea what he wants from talking to folks at the LD Caravan Club but I'll entertain suggestions.

Ilene & John:
Congratulations on the purchase of your Jeep...so are you going to bring it to Quartzsite this winter, and do some 4x4-ing out in the desert?
I don't know what John is thinking about getting in the way of tow bars and a braking system, but he might want to take a look at the ReadyBrute tow bars with the integrated ReadyBrake.  We've towed our Element with this system for around 9,000 miles now, and have had very good luck with it...it's easy to hook up and unhook, and just one simple hookup, done at the same time you're hooking the toad to the motorhome, activates your brakes.  No big box brake to take out when you want to use the toad, and put back in -- and adjust -- when you get ready to tow.  It also doesn't tap into the motorhome's brake system.  www.readybrake.com

Thanks, Linda, for the suggestion. I've printed it out and we'll check into it. We'll probably have some more questions later.

Unfortunately the bad news is we did NOT get our Jeep after all. I don't know what sort of name they applied to the trick they pulled but we walked out on the "deal." The day before we'd made an offer and they then made a higher counter offer (they called it a "god's send" - how absurd). We considered it and accepted their counter offer. Then a higher manager came back and said they couldn't go that low. We'd have to go even higher. It was more than we wanted to pay so we left.

The next day our salesman called and said they'd go with the "god's send" offer that we'd originally agreed on. When we returned they told us to go ahead and test drive it. When we got back they claimed they couldn't find the paperwork (even though it had been a computer printout) and our salesman wasn't there. They came back with a price higher than before. When we told them what our salesman had promised, he said he couldn't possibly let a car off his lot for that price. I asked why did they offer that so-called "god's send" price in the first place and why were they wasting our time by calling us back if they couldn't. He said he didn't know but he'd call that salesman to find out why he'd promised us such a low price, implying our salesman was in some kind of trouble.

Well I think I've been around long enough to know this was a ruse.
They just wanted us to come back, drive it, and fall in love with it (which, of course, we did) then we'd be hooked and would pay whatever they wanted. They got the wrong people. We told them we did not appreciate having our time wasted like that and then we left. We know what we can afford and don't want to be "Jeep-poor". So we will wait and keep looking. Eventually we will find our Jeep and it will be the right one for us that we can live with.
That experience only made me appreciate doing business with Lazy Daze all the more. Steve Newton may never win a personality contest but at least I knew he was telling the truth. There's a lot to be said for that.

After we leave Riverside, we will head up the coast to Oregon and Washington. We'll be returning to Riverside in November for our granddaughter's birthday and for the holidays. Not sure what we'll do after New Years in Death Valley. Our plans are still open right now.
We're considering Mexico or spending the winter storm watching on the southern Oregon coast. Springtime may find us up around the Grand Canyon perhaps. Who knows? We'll definitely stop by if we'll be in Quartzite.

Ilene, sorry to hear that your Jeep buying experience was such a bummer!  Maybe you'll be able to find one before DVD.

We're sitting here in Whitehorse watching the sun set at 10:00 PM.
Since this RV park has good high speed WiFi, we're catching up on email, etc.  We start towards Dawson City tomorrow, then the Top-of-the-World Highway.
