Fuel Filter Replacement 2001 Ford E450

I would appreciate some help on changing the fuel filter in my 2001 26ft RB from folks that have done this replacement themselves.

I followed the thread for Keywords "fuel filter" in the "Yahoo LifeWithaLazyDazeRV message archive" as far as Msg #46929 but I could not find any messages after this one that had details about part numbers or procedures.  If I can gather enough details and if I can do a successful replacement, I will post a detailed procedure on the "Techsnoz" yahoo group site.

This is all I could find: - - - - - - - - - - Msg # 46929 Date: 2004-11-25 07:06:00

Terry,

It was my post that you referred to.  The NAPA filter that ended up working on my 2000 MB is part # 3595.  The original Ford one had a part # of FG-986B (I think...it is real hard to read on it, could be FG-966B).
The tool you bought is the one that worked (NAPA # 3321) and it is used to press the three pins that hold the clamp compressed all at the same time.
I didn't do the change myself, as I was on the road 2500 miles from home when it went out...I found a truck repair shop in southen Indiana on a Saturday that was willing to change it for me...luckily the NAPA store was just a few blocks up the road as it took 3 trips there to get the tool and the right filter before they could finish the job!  I watched closely however and while there is always pressure in the fuel line, I didn't think it was excessive (any more than any other filter change I'd done) and there didn't seem to be an excessive loss of fuel during the change so assume the flow stopped when the pressure was relieved.  I can't think of any other "pitfalls", I plan to change it myself next time (hopefully at home, not in the middle of a cross country trip).  I plan to change it at about 15K increments...a fair amount of fuel goes thru it by then!

Hope this helps,
