squeaks when we walk February 09, 2005, 11:47:24 am Yahoo Message Number: 50591We have a 2002 26 1/2 foot mid-bath LD with about 12,000 miles on her. For the past couple of months we've noticed a loud creaking sound when we step into the motorhome side door, when we move about, especially in the rear area over the duals, and when we're going really slowly down a quiet road. The location of the sounds and the fact that that happen when stepping in/out of the motorhome, move about in the rear area, go into/out of the bathroom, suggests, at least to me, creaking leaf springs. Anyone else experiencing this problem? Indeed, any other thoughts on what the problem may be? Any suggestions for a do-it-myself fix?All comments appreciated.Hank Harwood

I've not found the source and the rig is stored for the winter, but its on my list of things to do in the spring.Like you, I thought it might be the springs or a bad or loose shock absorber. Other thoughts are a loose exhaust pipe or step mount. A few months ago, someone posted about snugging up the body to frame bolts from underneath the rig; that they found several of them had come loose. I don't think LD has anything in the owner's manual about this, but it is on my list of spring projects. I'll be curious to learn what you find out.Steve K.

At first I thought that it was comming from the wheel/brake or shock area. I found the noise was comming from the metal that is fasten to the underside of the chassis. This material is stapled to the wood. I found a few loose areas that I added a few staples. Nice and quite now. Hope this helps.Craig

QuoteFor the past couple of months we've noticed a loud creaking sound when we step into the motorhome side door, when we move about, especially in the rear area over the duals, and when we're going really slowly down a quiet road. I had a similar problem with my 2003IB, mostly while driving. It was really irritating! The squeak was finally found to be coming from the Dometic microwave. It came from inside the unit and was the 2" wire hanger that helps stabilize the magnetron. It was rubbing against the metal frame and would squeak when the unit got bumped. To see if you have the squeak problem, bang on the outside of the unit with the palm of your hand. Also, stand next to the unit while someone is walking around or they are driving. The fix is pretty easy. The microwave is held in place by screws in front. Remove them and slide the unit out. Remove the microwave main cover screws and remove the cover. The magnetron is the metal box on the side and is clearly labeled. The hanger has a hook on top that goes into a hole on the metal microwave frame. It would squeak when the unit was bumped like driving down the road. I wrapped some cloth tape around it to prevent metal-to-metal contact. No more squeak.Kurt2003 30IB

Does not seem to be inside, but its very difficult to pinpoint. Thinking it might be the step, I greased that up good. Still squeaks. Another suspicion was the batwing TV antenna. Nope. Based on a couple of these posts, I'll check and tighten any loose bolts underneath this weekend.David

Try removing the wheel covers, as they can also cause a squeek when the vehicle is in motion. If this resolves the noise, reinstall one at a time, checking for the noise at each installation.Lon 2003 MB

Have someone walk around in coach while you look and listen (g).all the best, bumper (and quiet "Yonder")
